Are all R2R dacs slow and soft?

I've tried a few.
Border Patrol, Sonnet, MHDT, Mojo, and a few others I can't recall.
They all seem to have a slow, soft rolled off sound that lacked detail. The Mojo being the exception, but was still on the softer side.

I'm now interested hearing the LTA Aero and the May Audio Spring.
If anyone is familiar with these 2, is it more of the same, or do either one of these stand out from the rest of the crowd?

The reason I'm looking around is I have a PS Audio DirectStream MK2 with the Airlens, and it's very nice and super detailed, but on some recordings, it can be pretty unforgiving and bright. I'm looking to take the edge of without the sound turning soft and mushy, and lacking detail.

@traudio awesome! This tells me you can improve the sound further by getting better Ethernet cables. Keep the switch as you can split into Airlens and Roon Core. I found no sound degradation with this switch in my system so you should be good if you want to keep it.

If you are willing to try better Ethernet cables, Wireworld Starlight 10 Twinax should be a very nice way to improve your sound further. You will need 2 - one for lens and one for roon core.

I may be late to the party, but I own a Holo Audio May KTE paired with the Holo Audio Serene, and in my system they’re staying put for the long haul.

The May is extremely detailed without ever sounding harsh, and it’s certainly not soft or dull. I’m feeding it via a Holo Audio Red over I²S, which is clearly its intended signal path, and the synergy is outstanding.

Previously, I ran a PS Audio DirectStream DAC fed by an Eversolo DMP-A6. While I genuinely enjoyed that combination, my current setup is clearly on another level and has become my reference.
