Goldenear….recent experience and lesson learned

Against better judgment, I bought a pair of GE Triton 3+’s new from my dealer about a year and a half ago for my home theater. I went against my gut, and bought a pair of powered speakers. Of course, last week one of the amps died. The speakers are still under warranty.
Reached out to my dealer, who called GE. Apparently GE no longer has replacement amps. I can remove the amp and send it in for repair, but no replacements are available. Pretty sh-ty. Nice job Paradigm (probably old news, put Paradigm now owns GE). Never been a Paradigm fan…and this just confirms my feelings.

Should have followed my gut and bought non-powered speakers and a separate sub instead of GE, Chinese assembled junk. Lesson learned! 

Just a heads up for all you GE owners if/when you have amp issues.

Prior to buying any GE speakers, call Paradigm to confirm they will have parts in the future to support your purchase.

Take their offer to fix the amplifier.

Powered loudspeakers are more complex than passive ones, so they will probably break more often and possibly sooner.  Still pretty much everybody who has a subwoofer has a powered subwoofer which tells me that powered loudspeakers are not inherently a problem.  You have a had a problem with a specific brand of powered loudspeaker, but others owning the same product have not.  Life is like that.

For every experience like the one that the OP's, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, like me who have had them playing daily for years with no issues. I hate to see a brand crapped on like this.

I had two sub amps fail on my Triton 2’s and GoldenEar replaced both for free, out of warranty. Those two subs are still working. I also have a pair of References and those subs have not had any issues in roughly 4 years or more. Hopefully PML continues to provide ongoing service for the entire speaker line. Would think they would would give their reputation as a major audio company.  Outstanding speakers for the money, with excellent sound, and would buy again.  One of the only speakers that allow bass adjustability which suits my lower listening volumes.
