Women definitely enjoy music, without question, but many are not inclined to immerse themselves in the hi-fi gear, technical details, and “nuts and bolts” discussions that men often like to talk about or debate. They may not have the time or energy to focus on such matters, or they may simply care less about them. My better half is a good example: she loves music and, in some ways, understands it even better than I do, yet she has never been interested in the technical topics that we tend to care about. Similarly, are you particularly interested in the details of makeup products? Men may enjoy seeing beautiful women, but most do not care which specific makeup products are used to achieve that look. |
Ozzy62 that part of VA (the foothills of the Blue Ridge) is a gorgeous area and you are lucky to live nearby. I’ve often thought of relocating to a more scenic area of VA in retirement but then I look at my stereo equipment, records, CDs, etc and think, maybe I’ll just visit down there but stay here in my stereo emporium fashioned over 32 yrs! Culling, packing, moving, downsizing—ugh no. |
deep_333 very true! My wife hates Wilson spkrs but absolutely loves my Klipsch LaScala AL5 speakers. I remember considering buying a pair of JBL 4367s but it was a hard no on her part! She begged me not to buy anything that looked like they belong in a bar. I don't need my wife's permission to purchase anything but she was extremely happy when I purchased my LaScalas. The same went for my components - she hated my previous McIntosh with those huge industrial faceplate but finds the Accuphase to be one of the prettiest pieces ever made. She loves music and appreciates the hobby but doesn't obsess over it like I do. She definitely doesn't understand why audiophiles spend $500, $1000 or $10,000 on cables, but in her defence neither do the guys I work with at the fire hall. Yet I don't understand how my buddies obsess over golf. People basically like what they like. She's content with the little things in life and is happy listening to music on her cell phone. So who am I to judge? And that's the problem, us men constantly judge other people's musical tastes, their components, spkrs, etc. Women simply don't care. Maybe there are more women in audio then we actually know about or give credit. They just don't brag about it. But damn, this is a great hobby and I'm so glad to be born a man! |
