Are exotic speaker cabinet materials overrated?

@mark200mph how do they resonate when pushed hard with boosted bass?

@foggyus91 all the supposedly inert materials assume recordings are perfect, which they aren't. The treble is rolled off, which is a miscalculation for flat speaker theory and why they sound dull, lifeless with no detail. Additionally, recordings don't capture the full sound, resonance and attack as when instruments are played in the living room. It doesn't make sense to me to reproduce and restore the sound of wood by converting it to concrete or any other material. You have metal domes to reproduce metallic instruments but you still need a wood cabinet to reproduce the sound of wood instruments.

My speakers don't have any wood in them and yet I can still tell the difference between a guitar, violin, etc. 

I push mine with hegel h 30 a mono, mcintosh 2kw with 8kw transients ,krell 700cx 4kw transients and the magico do fine . I guess like jbl these guys have software and engineers that do all the calculas as I hated that class but scored the highest.dad was a nuclear physicists that did operation red wing look that up. I did 4 years of machine shop in highschool.that helps when I have to put ti plates in people's head. Those amps are on the q7 magico there power hungry. Now my focal are wood but thick some of the wood is 3 inch thick and I have many wooden speakers weigh > 500 lbs. Internal bracing.

@tcutter You are hitting at the real issue. Those who make wholesale condemnation of something they do not understand or ever experienced. 

I have had the pleasure of listening to many speaker designs and cabinet materials over the years. To call speaker made of granite, aluminum or other materials "ridiculous" when you have never listened to them is well ridiculous. 

Now I have never had the pleasure to hear a pair of concrete speaker cabinets yet I am not opposed to them nor do I completely dismiss the theory of the material having positive acoustic attributes. 

I have also had the displeasure of listening to 100's of cheap wooden boxes with transducers stuffed into them that well sounded like crap. Sorry a $500 speaker sounds just like that a $500.00 speaker not a $10,000.00 Sonner Legato Duo, or a pair of Aluminum Magicos.....

 but you still need a wood cabinet to reproduce the sound of wood instruments.
 

See now I think you are just having us on. Surely no one really thinks that. If you stand by that comment, everything else you say is suspect.

Using your logic, a cabinet of wood cannot reproduce brass instruments. See how silly that is?
