Ortofon MC X30 broken cantilever - what are my options

I just want to let others know, Audio Technica has a program, I sent mine in suspecting it was near 1,000 hrs, they confirmed it was still ok, not causing damage, but not for much longer, and I was able to purchase a new replacement AT33PTG/II for just under 50% of the cost of new.

Soundsmith also has a program that is relatively inexpensive to re-tip their cartridges.

Here in New Jersey, USA I and most of my friends have used Steve and Ray Leung at VAS to repair/build cartridges.

Depending on how Ortofon responds, I may consider sending the cartridge to Soundsmith.  If Ortofon only offers a 25% discount off of new, then the cost would be over $500.  Soundsmith can replace the aluminum cantilever with Sapphire, Ruby, or even Boron with the same profile Nude Diamond for less than that.  Essentially upgrading it to the MC X40 level.  I will look at VAS as well.  Thanks.

I didn't realize Soundsmith worked on other brands cartridges, and the prices seem pretty good.

VAS may be a faster turn around, I have heard 'slow' about Soundsmith, but have no direct experience. VAS has always gotten me and my friends done rapidly. I feel lucky to live only 35 minutes from their shop.

OP, Soundsmith is getting settled after a forced move from where they have done business for 20 to 30 years and still getting settled, they are my first choice for rebuilds but might be behind the eight ball right now and are running behind as they have one of my carts right now, WTS I have been very satisfied with VAS on the rebuilds on a Dynavector DRT XV1s and a Miyabi Standard with very quick turnaround.
