80s - 90s. Revel Studio 1 also fall in that group. The measurements should show they help to create a wider soundstage. That's probably the original intent.
The 1980's and Robot Speakers

Forgive me for being a little nostalgic. I’m thinking about my formative years as an audiophile and speakers I thought were particularly interesting (i.e. cool) looking from that era. There was a sub-trend of speakers I always think of looking like robots. That is, the enclosures for the woofer, mid and tweeter were different sizes. I can think of three such models from the time:
- B&W 801
- KEF 107
- Vandersteen 2CE (not sure how early it was in production)
- Revox (more stepped baffle)
- Wilso Audio Alexandria
Their theory of operation was in stark contrast to very wide baffle speakers such as Snell A/III, Infinity Reference Standards, Sonus Faber Stardivari, some Focal Utopias.
I’m curious to hear your opinions about the sound of the designs? Do you think they brought something unique to the sound by being robots or have you heard better in a more traditional framework like say Magico?
Would you argue that in fact the wide baffle speakers won? (the correct answer is yes)

Yes I rember talking to you about the ganz lemm . I have almost the full infinity line as I just rebuilt the kappa 9 including the crossovers. You could build a set of the irs v with parts express grs ribbons and sublime crossover at 200 hz 4500 hz.tekton make 6-10 woofer or you could get the sub boxes 4 x 12 inch and stack 2. Rockville audio has that and stack 2 each side. Midwest speaker repair has reproduction of the emits 70 each. Much cheaper than 80k irs v.when i talked to Paul at ps audio he stated there are much better ribbons these days but would not sell me his individual ribbons with textreme that's better than mylar or kapton no the final has thier whole panel out of textreme material. I bought the review pair with the tekton 6 -10 woofers and there close to the irs v. The final 35 model.they require power ap wise like the irs v . My irs v are tri amped each side.
