Your Ultimate Phono Preamp: Which One Would You Choose?

Imagine you’re in the market for a high-end phono preamp (your ultimate, at least for the moment) and have the budget to splurge.

Which one would you get?

Perhaps you've already got it, which one?

A very good sounding CH Precision P1 with X1 power supply and ZYX Optimum cartridge was very satisfying until I acquired a DS Audio Master 3 phono stage with a Grand Master cartridge.

I’m done!

Ultimate Phono Preamp:

  • Ch Precision P10
  • Emia phono + Emia SUT
  • FM Acoustics 223 - top Sonics with a anti click/pop feature

Within budget:

VDH Grail SB - my current transimpedience phono stage, low noise floor - MFremer bargain

Every time Conrad Johnson ups the game it is a game changer.  My ART Phono is the current top of the line and wonderful.  The thing is, at some point personal taste takes control.  I prefer the sound of CJ, but respect the sound of others too.  At this level there are several that are awesome.

It's very hard to beat a manley steelhead.  When I bought mine, after Fremer's stellar review, I felt it was the single best piece of audio equipment I had ever experienced.
