Is this the right forum for me?

Hello!

I just recently joined, searching for discussion on music and equipment.  Bought my first set of "high end" gear in 1972, a Marantz 2270 receiver.  Only recently sold it as I wasn't using it and it was just sitting on a shelf.

Had gone to Luxman equipment in the early 90's, and basically stuck with it until 2019, when I decided to get a new system.

I listened to a lot of gear at a local fine audio shop and decided on a modest set of equipment that fit my needs.  A fairly simple system, just a Naim Uniti Star which is an all-in-one CD player, streamer and integrated amp.  For speakers a set of Goldenear Reference.  I later added a Goldenear "Super Sub" to bring out the lows a bit better.  I added high end connection and power cables and a power conditioner.

The sound from this system is many steps up from what I had, but I realize it is not what some of you have after reading some of the posts.

My question is, am I worthy of being called an "Audiofile"?  I just turned 70 and I listen to music all the time, way more than TV or other media.  My hearing is not the best and I wear hearing aids, so my level of music enjoyment is somewhat compromised.

I do enjoy the discussions and reviews of high end equipment, just not sure I "fit in".  Thanks for your comments in advance!

@bipestuff

There’s no "audiophile" standard; just different folks liking to call themselves that, with varying degrees of verisimilitude. Don’t worry about it and welcome to the forum!

I say you are so there and dare anyone to prove me wrong. 😉

Just steer clear of Bose or else….

Crosley is of course right out!👨‍⚖️

I will join with our chorus of friends. Welcome here.

Takes nothing seriously here except my posts, (i am a bit too serious for my own sake )

 Music is meaning, a meaning through sound our life habits taught us to identify, nevermind our age and our limited windows of frequencies perception with aging. ( There is more to the perception of  meaningful sounds  than the mere frequencies ceiling height)

Dont be affected by  your hearing aids. You are a music lover and an audiophile as i am. I am 74. We can appreciate and judge sound  as any aging orchestral maestro can in spite of his age...

The master to us all is Beethoven .
