Looking for Power amplifiers with built in A/B speaker switches
I have a budget of $15K, new or used. I have two pairs of speakers and would love to have the capability to be able to switch back and forth between them without needed to fool around with changing speaker wires all the time. I'm NOT looking for any type of external switchbox. I want this to be part of the amplifiers function. I know Accuphase has this ability in some of their amps and was looking at the P-4600. I would also like the new amp to be an improvement on what I have now (Coda #8 V1). I would like something that can manage 4 ohms loads since both my speakers are 4 ohm and a high current design of at least 200-300 watts into 4 ohms. Any suggestions?
I guess I worded it incorrectly, but most warn about no 4 ohms if two pairs are connected. You can be careful, but someone else could operate it.

@elliottbnewcombjr I think most of those warnings are for people running both sets of speakers at the same time. I have no plans on doing that. Thanks for the recommendation but I'm looking for a current model power amp and not a receiver. |
I think the Luxman c900u amp (maybe it was m900u) could do this but the comment above about the cumulative load even if A or B is selected may also apply here. I was reading about this years ago when I also wanted to use 2 sets of speakers with 1 amp. I decided to get a preamp that had good RCA and XLR outputs and then got 2 amps. Ideally the plan was to get the COD 07x preamp with dual XLR outputs and then get 2 amps. Unfortunately, I found the 07x to noisy and sold it. Another option is to call Doug Dale at CODA and see if they can do something custom for you. They have done some customization for me in the past to the #8 amp. |
