The one that got away

Is there any gear you had the chance to buy and regretted not buying? Some years back I was offered a Marantz 10b tuner for $600 and passed on it.

Yes, a second pair of KLH Nine ESL’s. In July 1991 HI Fi Classics in Far Rockaway, NY had two pairs available for $500 each. I only had enough for one pair. I still have that pair though now one of them needs the power supply rebuilt. The KLH Nine is a six feet tall full-range electrostatic speaker designed by Arthur Janszen in 1960.

My local HiFi store had a trade-in pair of Apogee Scintilla full-range ribbon speakers for $900. Alas, I didn't have the money available at the time. These were the 1 ohm/4 ohm version with two sets of jacks on the back.

What didn’t get away were a nicely-restored pair of Dahlquist DQ-10’s with new foam surrounds, upgraded cross overs, custom stands and new black grill cloth.  The seller was only a few miles away. I paid him the $375 he wanted. He also had a pair of DQ-20’s for another $375. Now I regret not buying those also!
