New to this hobby please help me

Hi all i’m unsure on what speakers to get i have a marantz sr5011 my budget is 4,000 for floor standing speakers.  I found a local deal on some golden ear technology t66 the red ones for$3800.  But how do i pick without the ability to listen to other brands kef sonus faber etc!!   Is golden ear even good what suggestions do you have on hearing lots of brands under one roof.  My listening is 50 percent music 50 percent movies.

^^ best advice right here.  People will likely recommend what they own but in the end your ears should tell you what to get.  Take advantage of local dealers and demo what they carry or go to audio shows to get a feel.  It's a journey.

OP,STOP STOP STOP!!!
All these recommendations for speakers or how to demo them are WORTHLESS if you have no clue what REAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS sound like!
Before you spend 1 minute/dollar traveling around to demo speakers,GO LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC,amplified & acoustic!
Hell even go hang out at Guitar Center, ask the sales guys/girls to demo some different instruments for you..Learn how a Strat sounds different from a Les Paul, how an electric keyboard sounds different from a good acoustic piano, how a trumpet sounds different from a sax,how an electronic drum set sounds from real skins..You'll save time, money & frustration in the long run!

@wizzard The Typical Speaker is a Directional sound source.

Instruments of which there are many, have many types that produce Omnidirectional Sound.

A Typical speaker can’t create this sound type, but will produce a sound that is a good reminder of such produced  sound.

Sound from a PA System will be closer matched to a Typical Speaker as both are Directional sound sources.

A speaker in a dedicated audio  system is much more refined as a sound than that from a PA System.

If a live sound is enjoyed, then keep on creating experiences with live sound being produced either as a non amplified sound source or as a sound produced through amplification and speakers.

When versions of the above are wanted to be heard as sound produced from the above. This is where the home audio system is a good substitute, but as a means to create a live experience, it is far far far away from the being their experience.

Audio systems are without doubt great tricksters and are able to dupe many.

Find your ideal sound illusion, the one that dupes you best.

This one is easy.   I was in the business for many many years.  Buy a $5000 pr of speakers on sale or slightly used for $3000, and buy a $1000 sub from JL or SVS.  You will thank me!   Enjoy.
