My room was also designed by an acoustics engineer. Jeff at HDacoustics did mine. He was recommended to me by Duke LeJeune who I met at Axpona in 2022. The results are spectacular.
Mofi Sourcepoint 8 vs. KEF R3 Meta
I'm considering one of these two critically praised speakers for my 21' x 14' room. I'll pair them with a Rythmik F12 subwoofer to cover the lower frequencies. I don't have access to a local retailer to compare them side-by-side, so I'm posting here to see if anyone has listened to both and can offer their opinion, or observations.

Let me attempt to explain. Many two-way speakers manage to achieve better midrange performance than many three-ways. ATCs happen to manage this in some cases. The reality is that even a $10K/pair three-way floorstander will often have BOM compromises that inhibit the midrange performance. It largely comes down to the performance of individual drivers. Most speakers at most price ranges are equipped with rather mediocre/medium performance drivers to save on cost or make the speaker an easier load. I’ve owned dozens of speakers and auditioned countless more at nearly all price points. Yes, once you get into real high-end speakers, the three-way model will almost always perform better than the two-way counterpart, but that’s if talking >$30K/pair speakers from the likes of YG, Rockport and Wilson etc. I have yet to find this to be the case with any brand of sub $4K speakers from the typical suspects. All of their three-ways pale in midrange performance compared to a $15K two-way from the aforementioned. I have a pair of two-way Satori Helios Textreme speakers that I would confidently pit against any commercially available three-way under $10K/pair. The midrange of the Helios is superior, even at high playback levels. |
Price = $2199 15 inch bass plays down to 25 hz and below. Small mid driver array kicks in around 200 hz with the crossover around 300...Mid array hands off to a single tweeter up top. https://tektondesign.com/product/full-range-speakers/full-towers/epic-15/#color (Could talk other tektons, but, this entry price Tekton should be enough for midrange contests).

I am not experienced with Tekton’s midrange array. I did once own their Lore Reference towers with the Be tweeters. That speaker had decent midrange for the price. It was ultimately letdown by excessive cabinet resonances. At one point I removed the ports while attempting to damp the resonances. The inner port ends looked as though someone had eyeballed the chosen length and then sloppily cut them with a pocket knife. One of the ports was cut so diagonally that one half of the tube was a whole inch longer than the opposing half. Combine that sort of build quality along with their customer service and I will never again consider a Tekton product. Regardless, I am doubtful their midrange array is a match for the Satori Textreme drivers, considering the latter are nearly as good as the custom Textreme midranges in Rockports. Not going to say it’s impossible but my experience leads me to believe it’s highly unlikely. |
past owner of LS50's, LS50meta, LS50 wireless II, Ref 1 and Ref 1 Meta. tried hard to fall in love with them all to no avail. all were good, but lacking that je ne sais quoi that makes you keep something, even with its warts and other blemishes. yes, I changed everything I could on the input side, but they all ended up going down the road. I'd go MoFi, with the thinking that AJ seems never satisfied and a bit of a tinkerer, and since he had involvement at Kef and Elac, and the MoFi is closest to his current thinking, I'd lean that way. |
