Your oldest gear?

What’s the oldest piece of equipment in your system?

What piece of equipment have you owned the longest?

Oldest piece i have would be a Yamaha P-350 turntable I bought when i was 14 (1977). So it’s at least 48 years old and I bought it new. Nothing high end about it, but it is my history, nostalgia kept it in a box in the cellar for 35 years. Even more important, it got me back into HiFi when my 14 year old daughter asked me "what’s a record?". Dug it out, refreshed it a bit and been going/operational since (but does now play second fiddle to a newly acquired Sony PS-X50 TT).

Thanks kid.

My older stuff in everyday use.

  • Quad ESL loudspeakers - 1961
  • 2 sets EICO HF35 monobloc amps - 1959
  • 3 x Garrard 401 turntables - 1965
  • 4 x Decca cartridges (retipped) - 1987
  • 2 x Lambda 25 tube power supplies - 1955

My beautiful JBL 4311wxa speakers. 1978. All original and still look and sound like new. Well almost.

Noromance,

That is a terrific set of vintage gear that would stand up against anything currently made.  While the Quad 57 has its limitations, recognized even in its day, it is nonetheless a fantastic sounding speaker.  Eico amps, are terrific bargains if properly maintained, the 401 is still a world class table and the Decca cartridges have a vivid sound that I like too.  I am not familiar with the Lamda 25 power supplies.
