What’s the Sweet Spot price point wise in your audio journey?
I ask the question because there are so much gear at vastly different price points. My sweet spot is the 15-30k range. That’s where my speakers, amp, and Dac for the most part sets. There are good things below the prices but there is synergy and price/performance when purchasing audio. For some folks it’s the 5-15 range. It just depends on what you budget is you can fund great stuff all over Audio. Thoughts! No negativity. Just real answers.

I have written this statement before but it’s applicable here. ”We see what is in back of our eyes not what is in front of them” . The lesson is simple. We like what our mind has told us, not anything beyond that. Most people here will ask questions about a, b or c component and which one they should buy. Most of the time they are seeking justification for what their mind has already chosen. So this is a big factor but also the mind decides that a component that costs $30k must sound better than one that cost $15k. Illogical and again, what our mind tells us. Furthermore, the component that costs more must sound better and consequently will give us more listening pleasure. Another illogical fallacy. |
My luck was having no budget for audio.. I experimented with acoustics , it was fun and now i understand why and how gear matter not because it is only a budget thing ... I know how to make a system working optimally at any price able to reach if not the maximal, at least the minimal acoustical satisfaction threshold... Anything than basic knowledge is useless it is bragging or marketing... I love too much music to think that this hobby is about "upgrades"... It is about music listening and acoustics knowledge ...

@deep_333 True statements. I've enjoyed the process of selecting gear over a long period of time. I like what I have now, but I sometimes wonder how my old system made up of an Adcom GFA555 amp, NAD 1300 preamp, and Vandersteen 2C speakers would compare. Not perfect components, but they played well together. Sure made me happy. It was all I could afford. |
I am with those who say there is no real linkage between price and system enjoyment. We all do this for a variety of reasons centered on music enjoyment. I submit to you that enjoying music, which is a function primarily of the ears and brain, can be done with the most modest of sound reproduction equipment. It is a sad artifact of our consumer society that we so easily slip into equating a dollar value of equipment with our enjoyment. An iphone and earbuds can be your sweet spot. Learning how to build your own equipment is a lot of fun and I guarantee that whatever you make is going to sound pretty damn good when it first gets playing. Funny thing. Many of us like fiddling with the equipment. Some like building it. Yard sale treasures can be your sweet spot. I have put together systems for $500 out of pocket and a bit of work that have met my sweet spot. Oh yeah, it helps to know that your sweet spot is a moving target. Here today and gone tomorrow. |
