I haven't tried the Ray, so I have no idea or opinion about it. The Linlai fits well into my setup and what I want to achieve overall. Of course, there are many ways to Rome. In my MA-1, I've combined it with the Melz ribbed anodes (without the holes), as mentioned above. I'm experimenting with the third one. On Monday, I'll be getting a TS T-Plates with black coated anodes for a bit more rounded tones and a slightly warmer midrange. I still have a few candidates for this position, which will put me at the front of the concert hall.

Late to the party but as I’ve reported on some other threads recently the Psvane Summit 6sn7 have worked out very well for me. They’ve bettered several pricy vintage types I’ve tried. Front 2 positions in my S30 and even bigger improvement in my MP3. I.tried the Linlai in my MP3 as well but the DC lights did not turn off so I removed the tubes for fear they could damage the preamp. Playing around now with the 2nd and 3rd 6sn7 positions in the S30 but as reported by others this could take awhile😵💫 |
@marco1 The DC offset light staying on possibly suggests a defective tube. I just received a pair of PSVANE Summits and unfortunately one of them was defective (as indicated by the DC offset light). I'm still waiting on the replacement. I'm currently using the Linlai Global Elite from Grant Fidelity and that is, without a doubt the best 6SN7 I have heard in my MP3.3. As for the 12AU7s, I have tried out a bunch of them aside from the stock tubes - PSVANE ART series (oddly unbalanced sounding, with a hole in the middle), PSVANE Horizon (very good and a great choice at the price) and Ray Select. The Ray Select to my ears is head and shoulders the best sounding of the bunch. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their 6SN7 which were grating and unpleasant to my ears after significant burn in - so much so that I returned them to Apos. I much prefer the stock JJ tubes and it does take a biggish leap to the LinLai or (hopefully) the PSVANE Summit to better them. |
@srama It will be interesting to see how the Summits work out for you. It appears you had the same problem (offset lights remaining on) with the Summits as I had with the Linlai. I’ve wanted to try Linlai again since there are quite a few very positive comments including Atma-Sphere’s but have been very hesitant considering the problem I had. Please let us know how you like the Summits. As I mentioned before they are some of the best 6sn7’s I’ve tried including several vintage types that have also recieved very high marks. |
