Recommended a highly resolving cartridge

Hi all, all tube system that is warm with a good midrange presence inherently. I’m looking for a cartridge that offers high detail / resolution and wide / deep soundstage. This is on a stock SL-1200G TT. On a side note, if anyone has experience “upgrading” the stock tonearm on a G please chime in. I’ve read conflicting reports of the merits of such a move, and while I’m very happy with the tone of my TT and am not looking to move off of it, I am curious about a tonearm swap (must allow for headshell swapping).

@fastricky

You asked about the compatibility of the Lyra Kleos with rock music.  I have had a Kleos for about a year, and it is fine with any genre of music.  In my system, compared to digital sources, there is a slight warmth in the upper bass/lower midrange, but that certainly doesn't hurt rock music--probably just helps to fatten the kick drum and bass guitar.

The Kleos doesn't seem to be the greatest tracker, but it provides natural detail and timbre and great soundstaging.

I clicked on your virtual system

and saw your TT with 3 arms and Phono Preamp with 3 inputs, I’d like to hear your setup

I just had a friend over for a few hours this am, we played in order: my friend’s Benz Micro Ruby Wood low output with new Line Contact in Boron Rod; Victor U2E MM with NOS DT-U2 beryllium/shibata; and AT160ML MM with used beryllium/MicroLine.

All 3 keepers, but we both preferred the two with beryllium over the Benz Micro. Having already heard the track with the other two, my friend looked up appreciatively at the 1st note of the AT160ML, it was Christian McBride, Conversations.

Then Chick Corea’s Trilogy 3, wonderfully recorded, such a sense of the space they recorded in.

"I decided to go all in and also get a AT ART1000x."

👍 ART1000X - you're cookin with gas.

Arguably a contender with the hyper $$ carts.

AT carts are enticing. The stylus life is around 1k hours. Was always a deal breaker for me.

@slaw Part of my motivation for the getting the 1000x was so I can rotate it with the ART20 and not rack up too many hours on one cart.
