@milpai For what it’s worth, I ran the P-4600 for about three weeks with ATC SCM50 passives. ATC has super clear, open midrange and top notch highly refined tweeter. I have had many experiences with Class A amps (not Accuphase) and understand the dimensional Class A vibe and tone pretty well. The P-4600 , to my ears had this smooth liquidity highly reminiscent of the Pass Labs Class A amps I have heard (and Plinius ) and yet it’s got the drive and dynamic authority of a powerful class AB amp. It’s truly a marvelous amp. The ATCs let you know immediately if something is not dialed in. With the P-4600 it was super fluid, refined, and dynamic. I can’t imagine any music lover/ audiophile not being happy with the amp, but that’s just me. My suggestion is, don’t overthink this. The P-4600 will be awesome with your speakers.
Accuphase amplifier choice
Hello All,
I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:
Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)
Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.
The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.
I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.
Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

I find that both the Accuphase P-4600 and A48-S amplifiers are great, super-fast, punchy, clean and bost effortless macro dynamics. Sonically, I find that the A48-S is more delicate and sweeter with rich-tones. I can attest to the fact that Accuphase Class-A amplifiers are known to produce authentic timbres and a spaciously layered, soundstage. I can only imagine what the A80 can do! Yes ATC 50 passive spkrs are incredible but the first time I heard the 100 actives I was floored. But this is a different topic. Will the Accuphase A-48S drive ATC passive 100s? I'm not sure. Maybe the P4600 can, but the P-7500 and A-80 most definitely will. ATC could easily be my next spkr so If it was me, I'd go with the A-80. |
@arafiq , I did not realize that. Nevertheless the A-80 seems to be built to handle low impedance loads. But I am worried that for the genres of music I play, the A48s might not be able to handle it. @dpac996 what is your current amplifier? Do you still have the P-4600 or moved on? I am also thinking that the P-4600 will sound good in my system. @fire_water you already have a fantastic system. But I know what the SCM100ASLT sounds like. These pulled me into the ATC room at AXPONA 2017. They were playing DaftPunk's "Lose Yourself To Dance" and it was so "groovy". Amazing musical experience more than sound. |
@milpai I was so impressed with the P-4600 I ordered the P-7500 as my final standalone amp. Next move will be to Integrated when we downsize house (when all the kiddos are out). I had Simaudio Moon 761 for a year (still love that amp) and was going to go with the 861 as the final monster amp, but was able to pivot to Accuphase to test out the price comparable P-4600 to the 761 and quickly discovered I preferred the Accuphase “sound” so made the move to the P-7500. I think the P-4600 is still available. PM me if interested.
