Accuphase amplifier choice

Hello All,

I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:

Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)

Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.

The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.

I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.

Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

@milpai If you are worried that the A-48s may not be sufficient to drive your ProAcs, then you should have no trouble at all with the P-4600.  The P-4600 runs in class A for the first several watts in any case.  As for a class A option, the A-80 may be a better choice, but at a greater cost.  The P-4600 may be the better option at its price point.  These are all highly capable amps that should all be able to drive your speakers.

My only experience with Accuphase class AB amps is with an E-380 integrated in a second system, and it is a very capable and musical amp driving Joseph Audio Pulsars which are relatively insensitive at 82 or 83 dB.

You NAILED it @toronto416 . Such is the case with me because I generally keep my equipment for a long long time. Last speakers were with me for 12 years. Current amp for 15 years. Want to make sure that the hard-earned money is spent well and there should be no regrets afterwards.

As Frank Sinatra sang years ago:  "Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention".

The A-48s or P-4600 are both good options - they are like twins.  They have their plusses and minuses, but either one would be a good long term partner.  Neither would be like marrying the wrong woman.

I love the meters and the led output also gives a digital number. In talking with a technician that fixes all amplifiers he seldome works on acciphases and showed me the internals. He just thinks the biuld quality is at the top. I have the m 1000 amps and even though they are old they run fantastic. I agree if you can find a dealer to let you try it at home great. Enjoy the hunt.
