@mylogic -1 Why would anyone have the desire to question(mock) a 20+ year old thread with over 56k responses? As a regular contributor(5+ years) I will presume for your sake this thread was "Tongue and Cheek". For the benefit of this thread I will play along. 1. It’s a form of communication between Audiophiles/Music Lovers and Record Collectors without getting overly personal. 2. Can bring awareness to newer releases and albums that need a good dusting off despite having a platinum sales status. 3. Some will comment on the recording SQ of a new release with can be very financially helpful(I wish more would comment).Lastly I find the regular group of posters and even newcomers non-combative unlike many other threads. Hopefully if anything positive occurs from this thread it will bring more attention and new posters where 100k responses is in the near future.
What’s playing on your turntable…. Does anyone care?
When l was in a previous discussion l questioned the value myself if l would want to tell anyone what l was listening to. I have always wondered why do some posters feel compelled on a regular basis to tell others what’s playing on their turntable?
What makes someone want to do that? Personally l fail to see the point. So l have posted this question to others to test if there’s any curiosity value in it. What would an analyst make if it all. Is it a form of attention seeking?

Am I incorrect in that it seems most of the posts of this sort ask the question what are you "spinning" or "what is on your turntable" rather than what are you listening to tonight? I am someone who only listens to music streamed. I don’t want this to turn into an analog vs digital thing. I played vinyl for over 50 years, both mediums have their plus and minuses, but right now I consume all my music streaming and that suits me fine. So my question is, "is it mostly people with turntables who seem more curious about what others are listening to"? Is there something in the ritual of playing LPs that creates a greater curiosity about others musical choices than those who stream? |
@alvinnir2 Vinyl collectors in general have a comradery due to the time, effort and continuous maintenance we all share in keeping our collection in order. IMO it has less to do with the content or curiosity of others vinyl collection. |

I dropped out five years ago because of the glitchy nature of the site and came back in four years later. I have only ever posted one other discussion before this one. l had no desire to pick on the thread you mention. There are loads of others of the type on Audiogon, “What’s playing on your system?” “What’s on you CDP tonight” “Jazz for aficionados” all on the “Recently Popular” summary, plus one other from memory… the mundane sounding, “Tune of the day” One thing l will do is credit the original 20+ posting that appears to have been a totally “original idea” and a proven success for Slipknot1 who as an early founding member started it all. Imitation is the best form of flattery, but for me too much of the same dilutes, and devalues the appeal of the original.
