Funny posts some of them. Can't imagine anyone not wanting one . Jimmy Fallon who is deep in money has a six figure McIntosh set up. I'm just a regular guy and love the MA7900 purchased used about 18 mo ago. Bought at online stereo shop with 90 day guarantee and 30 days return. Kept it. I paid $5,000. I think due to new pricing having gone up their a bit more now. It's about 10 y.o. Not sure what someone means by not warming up to the sound, I won't comment further it would be uncomplementary.

I agree with most of these. Only question mark is the MC275, of course an incredible amp, but is it that much of a great value? Not really hidden gem though.
Which ones would you add or remove from this list?

I have always loved the look of Mac, for decades and occasionally over that time went in to a dealer with the intent to purchase one. But each time listening sessions resulted in me crossing them off. Too little detail, tonal balance too shifted to the warm side. I remember a few years ago my dealer told me Mac had improved their sound and that I should listen again. So I did... only 10 seconds in... for me still the same overall sound quality. I understand if you loved rock and roll and wanted to hook them up with B&W and crank them why some would love them. The sound quality just doesn't do it for me. But I would just love a rack full of them for the looks. My partner (she)... says over her dead body. I guess they are really masculine. |
