Some of my favorite records are old mono recordings. Among jazz guys we argue about the merits of original Blue Notes vs. the new re-issues like the Tone Poet series. I guess the truth is, I am not really an audiophile in the true sense of the word. If you are into jazz, and you want good jazz, and you want really good sound, and you don't want to get hosed too bad on the price, I recommend you get at least a couple of Tone Poets. If you are into classical, you can't go wrong with any modern DGG or NAXOS or Decca.
Excellent sounding LPs
To follow up on my post about “ Playable LPs” is a question I was really trying to get at. I used the wrong term in “Playable.” What I’m really trying to ascertain is what percentage of LPs sound really good on your system? I have 2000-3000 LPs but they vary widely in SQ. I’m sure you would agree 90% is not the case.
So, to rephrase my question, what percentage of your records are near or at audiophile quality?
