Why don't you use transparent to be consistent with your speaker cables?
Interconnect recommendations
According to chatGPT, my 2 weakest links in my system, are my DAC & my interconnects. For a number of reasons, I am focusing on the interconnects first, starting with RCA from DAC to pre & balanced from pre to amp. My current interconnects are WBC Mogami 2549. Speaker cables are Transparent Plus. My USB is Cardas clear. I recently added the Stack Audio LAN silencer. I have a Furman P 2400 AR power conditioner & voltage regulator & Maze Audio Litz with billet plugs power cords.
Budget is open, new or used. Focus is on clarity, transparency and micro details. I want to match or slightly exceed the quality of my existing system.
My digital side of my system: Aurender N150 > Chord Qutest > PS Audio BHK pre > Moon 330A > KEF Reference 3’s.
If it helps, I am thinking used Dave or one the R2R (Holo KTE etc) as my DAC upgrade. Thanks!

Dave is interesting, but I would go with a whole new dac co. Lumin is very good. I have the chord tt2 with the pretty lights on top. It was very good but then I went with the lumin x1 streamer dac and I was so comfortable I'm not even considering any new ones at this point. And I have less interconnect to deal with |
@emergingsoul Excellent question & recommendation. Certainly in the mix. Then the question becomes which one… plus to match my existing SC? supers? ultras? Should I also upgrade my SC’s? They were a good match for my R11’s, but maybe not for my Ref 3’s. Fun stuff! Thanks |
I found too late that it would’ve been better to just reach higher rather than having to upgrade later. I went with super speaker and interconnect cables. Ultra seemed absurdly high. These are the types of things you’ll never need to replace so it’s a good investment and very important to the system if you’re components warrant a nice cable. Maybe I should’ve gone for the ultra speaker Cable but I wanted a longer cable and now I have monos and now I could’ go with a shorter cable. So that was kind of a mistake to buy a longer cable at that point. But if I upgrade my speakers I probably will go with better speaker cables. But the Super cables are very good. |
I was in a similar situation. I did upgrade my interconnects from WBC and Cardas Clear. There was a bit of improvement in the stage width and pinpointing of instruments/singers. I am not certain it was worth the money, but I am not going back. Regarding the DAC, that could very well make the biggest difference. I looked at the DAVE, as well as the Tambaqui, Weiss, and others. I selected the Bricasti M1S2 due to the options it provides. When I want clear and clinical like the Dave, it does that really well. If I want some minimal adjustments, it has several filter options for that. I expect the M1S2 is my endgame DAC. Another DAC I would recommend is the LTA aero DAC. I have the LTA preamp and absolutely love it. While I have not heard the Aero, the reviews are very positive. LTA has a nice try it at home guarantee as well. Enjoy the search! |
