You may spend a lot, empty your wallet in audiophilia just to find out (gain the knowledge about) where the giant killers hide for your specific tastes.
For example, a 12k pair of horns and a horn loaded sub (~6k), total of ~18k beats the crap out of speakers priced 100k and above for my preferences these days. But, i’ve spent a 100k on a pair of speakers in the past easily to even get that point of reference...didn’t know better
Don’t worry so much about ’analytical’, ’musical’, coherence, soundstage, etc...all that jargon. You could even keep the vocabulary as simple as....."I like it"...."I like it better"....."I don’t like it"..."i like it less"....etc, no biggie
Your tastes can also mutate as the years go by....So, make some friends, go by their houses and live vicariously through them until you’re really sure what floats your boat, buy used, try to cut even when you sell it, etc..... The latter is the type of solution to maintain fullness of the wallet.
You should be able to enjoy audiophilia, but, also maintain fullness of the wallet...They are not mutually exclusive.
Thank you all for your responses!
After doing some research (I’m relatively new to the world of audio and don’t yet have a good grasp of the vocabulary), I realize that the words that best describe what I felt are "analytical vs. musical": I felt that the Aidas (or the amplifier that was being used?) had too much detail for me and sounded "analytical" (I even spontaneously used this word without knowing that it was used in the world of audio), and that the Il Cremonese sounded more "musical."
I don’t know if it’s a question of speakers or amplifiers or just personal preference, but I made an appointment to go back and listen to them again. Also with other amplifiers.
In any case, thank you for all this feedback, it’s very much appreciated!
