Do you play the same records over and over again?

Akin to my last post about record listening: Do you play the same vinyl records over and over again for their SQ, or do you listen to records just to hear the music, no matter what the sound quality is?

@emergingsoul ”How do you decide what to listen to?

l believe most music lovers need no prompting. They generally know on the spur of the moment what appeals in that moment. If not, a quick look along the spines in the record rack something will “pop out” and that title will be chosen.

After all if the record is in your collection, surely it must be of value, or appreciated for it to be still in there?

Since April 2020 my goal was to play my entire vinyl collection. I made the decision to play only 1 side to speed up the process. During this time period I have added nearly 1000 albums bringing my total to around 2400. Currently have played over 98% of the entire collection with the vast majority of the unplayed being sealed, only a handful of bottom feeders(content/condition) are left to be possibly played. My 2026 focus will be trimming the fat from the collection and component upgrades.

@mulveling

Is your record collection growing? 3000 is a lot of records.

How do you decide what to listen to? Do you have a master index of all your recordings?

Do you have any 45s?

@emergingsoul  It’s not been growing much for the last few years. Glad I acquired most of my records before prices went too crazy. 3K is plenty; it’s already sort of an obnoxiously large collection. At least 30% of these LP’s, I don’t care for - based on sound quality or music - but I’m too lazy to get rid of them yet.

I’m not nearly enough of a "Type A" to track these things to the Nth degree. Partial organization / alphabetization is the best I can pull off. I’ll either browse the general bins or hit up the few "hot" piles (recent plays & favorites), based on my whim at the time.

Very few 45’s here. None of the small singles. 12" 45’s can sound truly awesome, but they’re a bit unwieldy in use, and a good 33 still sounds amazing.

My lps number about 100 of which I have stopped playing about 50% mostly due to quality since my system has reached a point of being very revealing and I spoiled/ruined myself by buying Analogue Production lps. Some lps I just dont care for anymore.

Some original 1970s lps that stay in the rotation that are pretty good even if not MoFi quality are  Pink Floyd  a few, ELPs 1st, Works , Steely Dan Aja, Goucho, Pat Metheny Offramp, A.F.W.S.W.F, Donald Fagen Nightfly, Alan Parson I Robot, Neil Young several, Stones several, etc.

When I get time, I plan to put back together my old  lower grade system with my 1980 Sony PSX55 tt, Nagaoka 110 cart, Audio Monitors speakers. 50 lb Sansui reciever. An ok sounding system that gave more grace to not so great recordings. For a trip back to listening for the music not the criitical listening.

Streaming has replaced alot of listening time with its endless variety and ease of selection, but my Digital end has not reached the level in SQ as my vinyl source
