I have always liked stand speakers and have owned a few. My first were a/d/s CM7’s and I still use them in our bonus room. I built a pair of North Creek Music DIY near field speakers, the upgraded Okara II, that I use in my basement theater and they sound very good.
For years I used Dynaudio Contour 20’s in my family room but recently replaced them with Focal Diablo Utopia Colour EVO’s and as good as the Dynaudio’s sounded, the Diablo’s are much better in my room. I can’t imagine many other options sounding better but I can’t be sure having never tried anything else in my room. I use a pair of subwoofers with them.
