Why…..
Stuck in the same groove?
Habit?
Bat for the other side?
Why do you listen to records?
Do you listen to records for the SQ, or do you just prefer to listen to music through this medium?
I find myself putting records on occasionally, ( I have a large collection) but I’m not sure if it’s because of their sound. I certainly have the availability of millions of songs or compositions to listen to by streaming, and the sound quality is just abut the same, and, of course, the variety is endless.
So why listen to records?
I am open to corrections on this matter. I believe I prefer streaming and CD's over LP's not just for the convenience, but because the S/N ratio is much better. Seems to be a huge difference that my ears/brain cannot accept. I use the TT when I am feeling nostalgic, amounts to about 5% of listening for me. |
I haven't listened to my turntable for a few years now. I watch my grandkids at my house. I have a fear of one of them throwing a ball and causing $4000.00 damage in a heartbeat. I plan on setting it up before the year is out. Part of why I want it up and running is nostalgia. I love the gatefold LPs. LP art is as much a part of the experience as is the music. Much of my collection will never see release in any other format. Time is a factor as to why I don't have my VPI up and running. Going down to the basement (finished) to listen for 30 minutes would reduce listening time to maybe 15 minutes. Turntables are more time consuming. I may retire next year and have time on my hands. As for the answer as to which format sounds better: I've done my own research to answer this question. One situation that bugs me is when analogue guys claim turntables sound better. I look at their systems only to find OPPO (and other mid fi brands) as their choice of digital playback! ( to be fair, I've never heard a highly modded OPPO or don't flame me if you have one and love it) 30years ago when I was in my pursuit of the ultimate system I was upgrading monthly. I upgraded my CD player and made the proclamation "Ah Hah, CD sounds better!" Then I upgraded my turntable only to realize "Ah Hah! LP's are better!" You get the picture. |
@hifiguy42 + 1 But I like vinyl, CD's and streaming because I can hear music I like on all of them, and I've got gear for vinyl and CD's that makes them sound great. Music is way more important to me than platform. |
