Used Bookshelf up to $3k

I quite like my Merlin TSMs, and plan to keep them, but just for grins want to try something else. Up to $3k, including used.

Does anyone here like anything by B&W? Seems like people love them or consider them just OK on other forums.

Buchardt S400 II if your room is 300–350 sq. ft. or smaller, and Wharfedale Linton if your room is larger than 350 sq. ft. I’ve owned both and can recommend them wholeheartedly.  Linton is picky on the digital front though.  If paired right, you will be paid back with nimble bass, large, tall and deep soundstage and pin-point image.

KEF LS50’s and they are no where near 3K unless you want the wireless versions. Also, a good pair of stands will be needed, and of course some high quality electronics. Amazing!

It does seem strange that in today's world of Audio Systems and Room Set Up for the use of the Audio System, with the intention to get the best from the End Sound able to be produced, that the term Bookshelf remains in use for a Speaker.

Does anybody actually propose that a Speaker has a placement on a Bookshelf?

Does anybody with a Bookshelf consider it the place to seat a Speaker?

Using the Term to give a outline of a Cabinet Dimension can easily be described in another terminology.

I think the Dynaudio Special Forty's are smooth, and am sure the Fritz are nice as well.  But I would watch for the Dynaudio Contour 20i's used, in the 3K + range with awesome dedicated stands.  They are better.  They shocked me, so much so, that i immediately watched for and bought their top line Confidence 20's.  Pretty nice to have stands that screw to the base of the speaker and are designed to enhance the sound.  I never got stand mounts, but do now, in the right setting.
