Just Get A Better DAC?
I see that many of you are adding clocks, DDCs and whatever other boxes for better digital. To those of you who have done this, do you think it would have been a better investment to just buy a better dac? I realize that it may be financially easier to add pieces one at a time, but I was wondering what those who have done it think. Plus, less boxes and cables, which is a blessing, IMO. I guess this would also apply to those putting boxes in front of their streamers.

The quality you get from USB vs other interfaces is highly dependent on your streamer and DAC. I have tried AES, coax and USB on my main system, and they were very similar with a slight advantage with AES. But if you have a relatively better DAC than streamer USB can easily be superior. So... like most things in audio... it depends. |
@sns Love your posts on digital. The DAC that I want to get, the Allnic D-15000, has an I2S connection. I was not able to listen to that connection since I do not have a way to use I2S. Can you give some advice on how to get I2S working. Preferably AFTER the fibre optic cable I have already setup from my network switch..

@chayro I am considering an Audio Note system myself right now and was curious to hear your experience with the DAC 2.1 Signature. Unfortunately my dealer only has the higher end AN DACs but I was informed the entry level DACs are also exceptional. Appreciate if you can share your experience with it, thanks. |
