Best Server To Run Roon Core

Hi Folks,

I don’t currently run ROON, but would like to begin correctly in order to give it a chance - and I understand that server (hardware) on which Roon core is installed is important for SQ (due to noise reduction and other factors).

What are the best hardware for SQ and usability where ROON core should be installed and why (be it audiophile dedicated servers or modified PCs)? Please comment on the rest of your setup for context if you could.

Thank you in advance.

Good to know. I’ve moved on from electronics that rely on AES/USB protocol. IMHO, Ethernet is the way to go as long as you ensure a ‘clean’ signal to your server/dac.

@lalitk Sure you know the MU2 is an all in one, so it uses ethernet. I tend to shy away from a one box solution but the MU2 bests my MU1 with a Weiss 501 DAC. For those still reading this, I can’t stress enough cleaning up either net. The MU2 has a JCat/Telegartner M12 Gold filter with a JCat PSU and the MU1 uses a Network Acoustics Muon pro Streaming System filter. I have switched the Network Acoustics Muon pro Streaming System and the JCat/Telegartner M12 Gold on the MU1 and MU2 and hear no difference.
Given the cost of a Roon server, streamer, PSU, cabeling and DAC the MU2 is a bargain. Seriously.

Thanks for the update on your system. I’ve sold my M12 Gold switch, it became redundant in my system after installing Telegartner OPT BRIDGE 1000M Optical Isolator.

Agree with you 100% — with the MU2, you’re officially living on easy street.

Please consider looking into the Small Green Computer/Sonore System Optique.  I started with Mojo Audio mod Mac Mini (external power supply) since the big issue is how computers are so noisy.  They continue to make great products. Although my system is nothing to look at and a lot of little black boxes (easier to upgrade or switch out a component piece),  separating the noise from a wired ethernet connection to my renderer/player Sonore Signature SE from the Small Green Computer i9 Sonicorbiter Roon server by introducing fiberoptic ethernet cable made a lot of difference to the lower noise floor and more expansive sound when loaded into my USB DAC.  This a "reasonably priced" system for its sound quality.  You buy direct from Small Green Computer in NH.

If I am not mistaken, you may have tried xact server in the past. I recently visited the site to see what’s new, and the n1 immediately caught my attention. What a beautiful piece of tech, inside and out. I am quite happy with I’ve got but can’t help wondering if n1 would be an improvement over Tele Opt Bridge. Check it out,
