@kennymacc If you like that kind of sound Sound Labs ESLs are the way to go. They are bulletproof. You can not blow them out and they do not wear out. They are even more reliable than a dynamic speaker, much more reliable. I use the best drivers in my subwoofers, but I lose one every 3-4 years. I keep two spares handy. My old Acoustat 2+2s that I got in the early 80s are still in use and look brand new. By 6 years of age I already had to replace all three ribbons in the Divas. When the company went under I sold them immediately. Ribbons are best used as tweeters. The Maggie ribbon tweeter is the best tweeter ever made, but they blow frequently enough that Magneplanar has a tweeter replacement program.

@mijostyn I love Sound Labs ESLs, as well. In years past, I've also owned Acoustat, Magnepan and Analysis Audio ribbon speakers. Currently, I own Revel Salon 2 speakers, which represents the end of the road for me as far as speakers go. Still, I certainly wouldn't mind having a nice pair of Apogee Duetta Sigs on the side just for fun. Happy Listening. |
Hello all, When Apogee got bought out I was the Lead Contractor running the move and actually followed that up by moving Jason and Sarah to their new home in Manhattan. They sold me 12”x 54” speakers presently mounted on the verticals in my Post and Beam home. They threw in a pair of prototypes roughly 12 x 14” that are recessed mounted into my walls. The sound is Amazing to say the least.
Fast forward to the present day. I start my second battle with Cancer this week. Not going to kill me but if you knew what I lived through in the past 4 year battle you’d know where I’m coming from. Makes you consider the future and what is left behind. These speakers will NOT be fully appreciated by my wife, my children, or the next owner of my home. Reaching out now and planning ahead. Making changes in the house now and likely willing to part with them at some point to people that know and appreciate true sound quality..

FYI... Mijostyn could be further from the truth. Apogees set up correctly with a nice front end of amplification and a good room will beat just about any loudspeaker available today. The larger Apogees with the qualifications stated above will offer a much more satisfying sound quality than what Acoustat, Magnepan and Analysis Audio offers. The Clarysis Robbon loudspeakers are an improvement on the Apogees but you will pay for that privilege dearly starting at $25,000 and up to $165,000 but they are truly spectacular. A rebuilt pair of Apogees would impress you immeasurably and there will be no fiddling or dark clouds that others are saying. They only say that because that is what they have read on forums, lol. If you want the real experience live music Apogee is a way to go. I've had my original SG pair for 27 years and they still play perfectly. |
