Peter Wolf - give him another listen

In our house we tend to have "theme"days to put some structure to our listening hours - which always is combined with happy hour(s). Friday is homemade cd mix day, Saturday is vintage cassette mix day, Sunday is movie soundtracks. Lately we have been doing a single artist on Wednesday. Pulled out some Peter Wolf cd's this Wednesday, and had a great listening experience. Played "Sleepless", "Midnight Souvenirs" and " A Cure for Loneliness" - his latest cd's over the past many years. Then pulled out J Geils greatest hits to cap off the session. This is truly great R&B, with some country blues and rock mixed in throughout. There are also some nice duets with Neko Case, Mick and Keith, and Shelby Lynne. SQ is very good imho. If you haven't played him in a while go for it. Biggest surprise was that there is a very clear style running from his J Geils days thru his more recent releases - with a few exceptions his J Geils stuff mixes well with his newer stuff. Enjoy!

He albums are terrific. Great stuff and Peter is perhaps one of the most understated writers of all time.  His solo music is special.
I remember seeing Wolf and the Geils band at the 1975 World Series of Rock concert at Cleveland Municipal Stadium.  They opened for the Stones.  South side shuffle, I musta got lost.  Great stuff.  Tower of Power before Geils.  Billy Preston sitting in with the Stones.  At the end, Mick pulls out a fire hose and blasts the crowd, and everyone loved it.  What a day.
