What ever happened to Krell ?

I know they're still in business but it seems to me they've lost their hiend status they once had.
I might be wrong ,but looking at their products of late the build quality and visual appeal looks cheaper.

Krell is made in USA.  They had outsourced an integrated and CD player a few years ago, but make everything in the states now.  The build quality is excellent and the sound is superb.  I prefer the new looks myself...some of the old stuff was fugly!  My Digital Vanguard has replaced over $20k worth of gear and cables.  I highly recommend Krell for audiophiles who value clarity, warmth and exceptional dynamic swing.  Tone color is also spot on:)

I owned a large chunk of Danny Boys work.  Sometimes myth replaces fact...they were very robust designs and overbuilt, reflective of the age.  I loved my FPB 600, FPB 400cx, KCT, Evolution 400, 202, 505 combo as well!  As I said, the Vanguard thrills me today as much as the older designs and in some ways more so.  Some of the real brains and engineers are still there as well.

Disc spinners are an unnecessary middleman.  Never thought I'd say that but it's true...my ripped discs in FLAC through my DVanguard sound better than ever!  More life, vibrancy and dynamic range plus more warmth....probably has to do with the Krell DAC, MIT COAX combo as well.
Plutos...so many!  Levinson 39, 390s, 360s and 37 transport(if memory doesn't fail), Wadia 860, Krell Evo505, SACD STD, Cipher, Sony SCD-1, 777ES, 9000ES AND XA5400ES STOCK AND MODWRIGHTED.  BAT VK-D5SE also plus other lesser players from NAD, Yamaha and Denon.

Alpha...funny, I sold my FPB-300 and preamp after demoing the Vanguard in my system.  Couldn't believe it myself but it just sounded better to my ears!
Anybody bother to read my post?  My Vanguard has followed many of the Danny Era designs and I would not go back.  Also, there is always far more to a story than the Gossip Queens would have you believe!
What review are you referring to john1?  Of course almost every review has its own special way of misleading the reader.
Perhaps  you are referring to the Absolute Sound review?  Some incorrect information in that review but overall positive.  Also, does anybody know who Herb Reichert is?  I read some of his reviews for Stereophile and couldn't help but choke on his absurdities and bias!

Kps25sc, I agree on the sonic description of the older Krell.  The new stuff is more open on top, fuller in the Miss and still reach down deep.  Dynamic swing is better and tone is spot on!
That's interesting because I owned a lot of Krell gear from FPB thru current gear and I prefer the new stuff.  To each his own!

Read the review from Mikey!  Buttery....lacking bottom end grip?  More tightly focused?  My read is the Dartzeels are severely colored and lacking in performance.  Also read the associated equipment...wow, good luck judging anything through that maze:()
Dan is now Boutique...Krell is more mainstream for sure.  All of this blather is just noise however.  One buys what one likes and can afford.  It's all good stuff...enjoy!
John 1 has come out of retirement apparently to enlighten us on the ways of audio!  Jeepers, thanks so much audio guru guy...I'll bet you have added a lot of insight over the years.  Can't wait to read your other informative posts.  What?  No posts?  Darn...I'll just have to suffer in darkness.
