Weiss 204

I have been searching for the best streamer for my New Ontech Dac 07, in this search my local dealer in Seattle is recommending the Weiss 204 Dac and I would put the Modwright power supply on, with the Lumin streamer the U2 mini or the U2. What do you guys think?..anyone have experience with the Weiss 204 or the Lumin products?

+100 on Lumin streamers - not so much on their control app but the hardware is wonderful. Didn't like the Weiss sound. Got a Canor 2.10, after a long DAC search and never looked back

+1 on @ghdprentice original analysis of the Weiss/Lumin combination.  Like him, I also prefer the Aurender sound over Lumin, but much respect Lumin.  I recommend you decide on the sound pallet you are after.  Your New Onteck is a chip based DAC.  I believe they use a Burr-Brown chip.  That design focuses on detailed clarity.  The Weiss will give you improved SQ in all areas but still be focused on detailed clarity.  The Ayon is a tube output based and its design intent provides more midrange bloom and rich musicality.  There is no right or wrong, just different design intents and sound pallets.  All are respected products.  My recommendation is to decide which direction you wish to go, research products that go in that direction, and audition before purchase.

Lumin: I currently have the Lumin UY2 mini with an added on LHY power supply. The addition of the linear power supply my sound by providing more bass and a more silent background. If I had to grade the improvement I would say 20-25% better. Worth the money spent to achieve. In short, I find the Lumin U2 mini sounds great. Defining great, quiet backgrounds and full resolution sound. Very happy with the purchase of the Lumin. I use with Qobuz and find a great combination.

Weiss 204: replaced my Chord Qutest with the Weiss and find the sound  substantially improved and not analytical at all. The sound is musical and more detailed than the Chord Qutest. I also upgraded the power supply with the Modwright Linear supply and this did improve the sound with blacker backgrounds and seemingly more resolution.   In short happy with the Lumin U2 mini and the Weiss 204.

I've been using Lumin with Weiss for a couple of years now and have been beyond impressed.  I would like to try Aurender as a potential upgrade but the Weiss DAC is not going anywhere.

Hello Z. I apologize for responding to your pm in this thread. Since I don’t have a credit card on file I cannot respond directly to the pm. Dumb rule.

I did have this same problem with a few edm songs. It was the DC protection circuit. I took it over to Boulder (30 min away) and they took care of it no charge. I’ve had no issues since. I think the amp should be able to drive your speakers with no problem since they are similar to mine. P has my personal email if you would like to contact me without this hassle.
