Visited a Store and was shunned
Can't tell you what's going on over on the West Coast, but my local guys are just different. They have the coolest audio store I've ever been to. Old mill building on Boston's North Shore that houses the most incredible collection of vintage &...

ACCUPHASE d-570S VS. LUXMAN D-07X SACD PLAYERS
I use an almost 20yo Esoteric SZ-1 and it might be the one piece of electronics I've had the longest. Build quality is second to none and I also use Acrolink (Esoteric) cables. I'm sure the Luxman and Accuphase components are fabulous but not sure...
$35000 to $40,000. speakers what would you buy and why?
Can't imagine anything sounding as wonderful as Graham LS5/5 with those Lamm amps. Might be all in for $16-$17K and then make sure you get the appropriate cables, Shun Mook or Auditorium 23 would work. Wrap it up for $20K - that'd be my choice but...
Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?
Pretty much exclusively preowned. I don't get the impulse to own the latest & greatest. Usually purchase well taken care of electronics 8-10yo and speakers, well my oldest set is 60 this year lol.
Best concert you've attended
July 13, 1985 Live Aid at JFK Stadium in Philly. Went on a whim with 2 college buddies and it became one of my greatest memories especially now that one has passed. May not of been the best actual concert (David Bowie private show at Avalon in Bos...
Favorite Cheap Trick song?
"Need Your Love" off Live at Budokan. So much HS greatness!
Audio Note speakers
From experience, unless the AN/E system can be set up appropriately, in corners, look at something else or maybe get the tricked-out AN/J. I had them and in my listening room & corners were not an option. They were fine enough and I certainly ...
Does anyone have a digital system that is as involving as their analogue front end?
I still enjoy the thrill of how my TT's sonic package changes when I get a new cart and the same with little tweaks like NOS tubes in my amp. At this point I'm 50/50 LP/Streaming. In the digital lane, I've upgraded from a Lumin U1 Mini to a U1 and...
Tune of the Day
John Martyn, "Glory Box "off The Church With One Bell... he just slays this Portishead tune.
Power amplifier advice?
I had those NHTs for a while. They're actually a very nice sounding speaker in a stereo setup and not as amp dependent as you'd think. This Onkyo Intgra might be exactly what you need, big meters and all, lol. https://holthill.com/products/onkyo-...
Notice That There Are Not Many Survivors of the MC from the early 19080's or so?
Crazy that I just mounted a Sumiko, Talisman Alchemist S. These were supposed to be 80's gold standard HO MC cartridges. I use a Van den Hull MC ONE which is fantastic but looking forward to spending time with this new & interesting find @ell...
Defunct brands-
Melos made some great gear, Equation speakers from Canada had a hot minute and were very good; I had their "7" model. Let's not forget Thiel. Jim never made a dog speaker - each and every one, paired with the right electronics, is amazing. Just to...
What are your Eureka Moments in this Hobby?
@lewl28 +1 on that feeling. I'm content, happy and for now, solidly off the upgrade wheel. I've found my lane.
phono stage tubes for VAC Master Pre
Mazda triple mica chrome plate 12ax7 are definately not overly bright. They are absolutely spectacular and in the phono stage seats would me amazing with say a warm Benz Micro Wood series, Koestsu Black or even a Grado Epoch series cart. They are ...
