QUASAR ELECTRONICS OR OTHER AMP KITS

Hi:

Does anyone know anything about Quasar Electronics and their range of amp kits? I am looking for amp kits to build an "audiophile" home made amp. Do you know where I could find a good kit (amp, pre-amp, power supply etc..)
thanks

Check out tubes4hifi.com. The SP12 and SP14 are great preamp kits. They also offer upgraded Dynaco ST-70 and MK III kits that I feel are better than the AVA Ultravalve ST-70 build.

In another price range altogether are kits from Audio Note. I've only heard a couple of offerings, but they're good.

Oddwatt makes some good products.

If you want to go solid state, there's some good info from Nelson Pass at passdiy.com. That's as far as I can get you though as I prefer to concentrate on tubes.

I'm currently using a rebuilt ST-70 that's using the Wellborne Labs driver board and the Curcio Audio Engineering BCS (Bias Control System). I really love it, but it's not the easiest build to attempt.

You could also check out Bottlehead if you prefer the SET/high efficiency sound.
