New discrete R2R Multibit 2 box from CEC

George do you know what “Delta Sigma” dac chips they used in their previous flagship dac models?

In the earlier ones they used the now discontinued R2R ladder multibit Burr Brown PCM-1702’s and 1704’s, but as we know Burr Brown because of the high cost of manufacturing these Burr Brown stopped producing them.

Like others CEC then went to the dark side and used far cheaper ESS Sabre (delta sigma, 1 bit, bitstream ) type chips. But it now looks like they and many other smart ones are having second thoughts and are going back to R2R ladder multibit again, but discrete this time from MSB, because there are no packaged versions R2R ladder from major dac chip manufacturers anymore.

I don’t blame them as to me nothing can compare to well implemented R2R ladder Multibit dacs, especially not delta sigma based ones.
