Music server choice

I currently own a Mach2Music modified Mac Mini that I use as my music server. Although the sound is great, through the years I've had lots of trouble. In all fairness, 50 percent was due to my limited knowledge of the Mac system. I've also had hard drive failures coupled with the company going out of business so there is not a lot of support to rely on. I'm considering moving to a Music Vault Diamond, PC based server manufactured by Sound Science in Colorado. Is there anyone that has gone from a Mac based server to a PC based server like this and if so what was your experience? Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

I have been doing a lot of research on this topic lately. While personally I am going to go with my own modified Mac Mini solution, I would recommend you look into the Linux based SOtM products offered by Sonore Audio. In addition, Small Green Computer offers Chris Connaker's (Computer Audiophile) Windows based CAPS servers that are fully assembled, as well as their own Vortex box products.

I have heard the Music Vault Diamond server used in a friends system and have no opinion on it other than it is a bit pricey. If you plan on just using the USB output then IMO there are better options.
