> Dear All,
> Sorry it took me so long to contact you, but the following sad news has been extremely difficut to deal with. My brother and Audiogon member Larry Burt, passed away on April 17th, loosing his life to stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
> Besides being an Audiogon member "strings04", Larry was also a freelance musician for 49 yrs. He started in music by learning Guitar, but later switched to the bass. He played on several hit records including "SUNNY" by Bobby Hebb, "WITH THIS RING" by The Platters, Eddie Holman's "HEY THERE LONELY GIRL", "AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS" by The Formations and many others. Larry also worked with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates fame, and was a studio bassist at Mercury Records in NYC.
> Larry was well liked by friends and was admired for his keen intellect and down to earth philosophy on life. He was dearly loved by my brother Ken and I, and other family members and friends.
> Larry also made friends with many Audiogon members, all of whom I'm sure have wondered...whatever happened to him? I am sure there were many emails to him (strings04) that went unanswered, but unfortunately, Larry was busy fighting for his life.
> Please pass this on to the Audiogon membership. A little later on I will attempt to continue with Audiogon where Larry left off. In the meantime, anyone who would like to contact me about Larry, may do so. . I will be tying to view Larry's Audiogon emails shortly. To date, some computer issues with MSN'S Vista, have prevented me from doing so. I hope to have those issues resolved shortly.

> Sincerely yours,

I mistakenly identified (type-O)Larry as String01. I meant to type Strings04.

To all the responders to Larry's (strings01)passing.
It was extremely moving to read the kind words you all had for Larry. While in the hospital, all of the nurses looked forward to visiting with him. Why? Because even though Larry was the one in trouble, he always knew how to make them laugh, both at themselves and at whatever problem or problems they were having. One nurse in particular, who's spirits Larry had raised, endearingly referred to Larry as "My Philosopher". She said Larry had special ability, for spinning a positive outlook on everything. She could not have been right.
Again, I would like to thank you, one and all, for all your kind words.
Larry's brother Tom (Hideseek171)
My best to the family. He's got one up on those of us still here. If he can read this...TURN IT UP TO 11 MATE!!
I am sincerely sorrowful at your loss…. And ours. Larry was indeed a special type.

Larry reached out to me one day pursuing a power cord I had for sale at the time. He bought it and said he enjoyed it immensely thereafter.

We struck a resonant cord apart from mere audio endeavors and a friendship developed. He preferred to speak by phone and we did countless times. Swapping stories, laughing at ourselves and one another, as well as life itself.

Larry mentioned his history in vague terms, never dropping names or the like. It is most evident now just how much of a gentleman, how humble and sincere a man he truly was and it adds to the impact of his passing.
.
Larry was instrumental in helping me thru similar issues which ultimately proved to be unsubstantiated and the results of a poor professional diagnosis. For I too had been diagnosed as having the same cancer a couple years ago.

For those few months we spent many times talking about life and audio in general and I must say Larry always provided me a differing and valued perspective as cases were then. I looked forward to talking with Larry and it was always an uplifting experience.

I thought about Larry as recently as today, that I should touch bases with him again to see how he is doing, not knowing of the battle to which he was then enlisted. It is a great shock to hear of someone you felt close to, regardless the method in which it is conveyed.

I’m not so sure the true measure of a man is found out on any financial balance sheet. Waht he has done, who he knows, or whare he has been. I believe it is more accurately realized by his contributions to his family and to those he met along his way and how each was affected by him. his affect on me was a most positive one.

I know not how other’s were so affected, and know only my own circumstances with Larry, and I am grateful to have made his aquaintenance, enjoyed his friendship, and aided by his wisdom and inner strengths. For all that I am so sorry to hear this woeful news, and yet I am so truly grateful that God allowed me to meet up with him, for ever how brief a time.

It was our turn with Larry for some time

Now it’s God’s turn.

Fare well Larry… and thanks... thanks a lot.
Some of those songs are very connected to happy times in my youth, I think Larry must have done what he loved most in life.

My wish is for you and your family to find peace in your time of loss.
Can't say I knew him, but sorry to hear the news anyway. My best wishes to the family at this sad time.

Dave
This is sad news indeed. May he R I P and enjoy all the music where he is now!

{I really don't think you need to worry about the unanswered emails at this point...}
