Another Kind Of Blue

For Jazz fans and non-jazz fans I can't recomment this disc highly enough, it is subtitled "the Latin side of Miles Davis" and as you might guess it is Kind of Blue performed with a Latin twist. It is performed live at the Blue Note by Conrad Herwig and a band featuring Paquito D'Rivera, Brian Lynch, and Dave Valentin among others, and it is completely and totally fabulous. It bristles with energy and superb musicianship. The sound is clear and a bit forward but mostly quite good and boy is this disc fun! Invite some friends over and turn it up! It is on the Half Note label and should be widely available, it was recorded last year and came out within the last few months. Enjoy!

Couldn't agree more with your review more, it's a great record! Actually, it's been a good year for Miles & Latin Jazz. Another project released this year is Humberto Ramirez - 'Miles Latino'. If you're not familiar with Ramirez's work don't let that deter you, he's a MAJOR talent, I personally own 6 discs by him, this trumpet player never dissapoints. 'Miles Latino' features an all-star Latin Jazz band, was recorded in the studio, a great-sounding record and makes a superb companion disc to 'Another Kind Of Blue'.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out. Do you have any other experience with those musicians?
Ozfly, it's my first experience with these musicians with the exception of Paquito Riviera. I'll be seeing what else they've done based on this.
Chazro, 'sup with you? I'll pick up a copy of Miles Latino, thanks for the recommendation. If it's anywhere near as good as AKOB I'll be psyched.
Cheers,
Jon
