rodents getting into speakers via speaker ports
Rodents in the garage, sure, but not in the speaker ports in the house. Made a sweet nest on the oil cooler of an '86 Carrera. It was a warm spot after that last late fall run, no doubt. I found the nest in the spring. No harm done that time. I've...
First Watt SIT-5 Monos
jasonbourne71 that's very interesting. I've always wondered about the GAS Ampzilla and would like to hear it one day. But if the room is small enough and most of the volumes are around 80dB max, wouldn't the first watt work pretty well? So to spea...
Went to buy Vandersteen 2C speakers and came home with a conrad-johnson Premier 11A.
I would second the thought to try the 11A in the main rig. I love moving stuff around to hear the differences. Right now the 62SE is with a 17LS2. There's an Conrad Johnson age gap, but they are possibly the best partners in the house. They are pa...
Went to buy Vandersteen 2C speakers and came home with a conrad-johnson Premier 11A.
I'm a fan of CJ > Vandersteen setups. Congratulations on the Premier 11.  I was messing about with a sweet PV-11 preamp, and it eventually needed some attention. But when I sent it to the factory, Jeff offered to take it as generous credit tow...
Andrew Jones - New Company, New Speaker - Field Coil Concentric
I didn't have much luck hearing the Sourcepoint 8 or 10, or even 888 or V10s. But I did stand in line for the chance to hear the Troubadors. The majority of the folks coming out of the room seemed to be pleased with the experience. My fifteen minu...
Favorite Pink Floyd Album
First album purchased at age 13, was Meddle. Echoes remains a favorite across the studio bit and multiple live versions. WYWH, overall favorite for a number of reasons. I have 4 copies of DSOTM, so there's that. I also enjoy Division Bell, Pulse...
Pass Labs Amps - Does the heat bother you?
The Pass Aleph 5 isn't really warmer than the CJ 62SE. If I play loud (for me, 80 dB can be loud) for a while, the room can get a bit warmer after two hours or so. It's quite nice, as I keep the house on the cool side over the winter.
Anyone own one of these preamps ?
I've had a Herron 360 ESP for under a year. It's a remarkable piece, with a soft start, plenty of connections, and a neutrality that does not call out for any particular attention. I enjoy that it plays low volume quite well, but has an enormous c...
AXPONA Chicago April 10-12, 2026 - Who is going??
I had a great time making the rounds all three days, including the stair climbing challenges. Revisiting some stuff a second time when it gave me good impressions the first time. Stunned by the mere idea of million dollar systems and four monobloc...
What Tube Preamplifier Under $1800 to Choose?
Aric Audio once made the Unlimited II, for well under $1800. But if you choose to roll tubes the budget will expand. I'm currently enjoying some Telefunkens from the last days of Brent Jesse's tubes.
AXPONA Chicago April 10-12, 2026 - Who is going??
I'm at the Hyatt Regency as well.
AI saids Vinyls needs to be stored 90 degrees. I had mine at about 70 degrees. Thoughts?
I like AI when it tells me it’s okay to enjoy my system.  8^) I dislike AI when it’s blatantly wrong and yet speaks as though its confidence is oracular.  On the other hand, AI has suggested that I might like to pair the Herron 360 with the Pass...
Going to Axpona
I might enjoy Rockports and Soundlabs and such.
Another tube preamp "What should I buy" question.
Five hundred watts into a CW4 is a hell of a thing. Picking a supremely quiet preamp would be my best suggestion. Something with adjustable gain would be my second suggestion. Aric and LTA can do that, and possibly ARC. I'm not sure that CJ offe...
How old were you when audio gear first caught your interest?
Born in 1959, I had use of the family Magnavox console from 4th grade onward. First LP was bought at age 12, in 1972. First personal system age 17 was Dual TT, Marantz 2216, and Marantz Imperial 5 two ways. Moved to a Grado cartridge and Epicure 1...
