ESS speakers "Translinear" Transstatic
i could never tolerate the original ESS AMT1 in the top where it was so rough as to be intolerable. the same effect was present in early shibata equipped cartridges and the original threshold 400 amp. i can only imagine the high frequency cacophon...
Match subwoofer to Spendor S3/5?
i am late to the party here but i am using a HSU Research vtf2 with great success. quite unlike trying to mate a sub to the LS3/5As which have a midbass hump which makes it difficult to mate a sub to. the s3/5s have no such hump so do way better i...

Micro Acoustics vs Grace F-9 MM's
i was referring to the 2002e. but there certainly is NOTHING wrong with the grace. i wish ma had remained in business but i could say the same for grace and peter pritchards ADC.
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
LS3/5As were what i WISH i had kept. i couldnt afford to keep them then. also, the DQ10s modified by randall research that i sold for a friend driven by a hafler 500. dQ10s with bass because of the amp. oh well, i guess i will limp by with my curr...
Cartridge Suggestions for a Black Widow Tonearm
hmmm, a grace f9e or f9r or f9l may be a good match. there are still some floating around. an upper end grado maybe?
Micro Acoustics vs Grace F-9 MM's
a great cartridge which i compared to the linearity of the sonus blues (a real comliment). i would LOVE to have another.i have an f9e and when it goes, i will likely have soundsmith give it the ruby treatment.
My LP couldn't beat my CD, until now
are adequate to demo the superior sound of vinyl. once the break-in and alignments are done, your collection will continue to amaze you. mine does.yes, i have some premium releases and they mostly sound damm good but so do most of the rest of what...
sumiko pearl or ortofon 2m red
i once heard a pearl and it was so lackluster that i wouldnt waste time on it.ortos otoh have always sounded like music to me.
Rebuild for Fidelity Research FR-1 MK3F...?
has seemingly been more recommendable than vdH. for around 400 bux, a new cantilever, maybe of ruby and a ml or mr stylus might be JUST the thing for the fr.i have a krell cart that i am seriously considering doing the same with. i have a nicely w...
OK, record is now clean, how about the Stylus?
and other carts, i cringe now of thinking about using alcohol. for years after, i uses stylast and sc4. THEN i tried ME.DAMM. that left the diamond cleaner than i had ever seen one through a 40-50s 'scope. techniique:i may or may not use a sc2 or ...
Is Direct Drive Really Better?
likely not. equal perhaps. the goldmund was dd but at what cost? somehow i dont think the 1200 is nearly a goldmund nor an SP10.aka hifitommy.
importance of phono cartridge
a 40 dollar grado black will sound its best there. a shure m97xe will and so will an AT440ML. once the cost of the table is no longer making you reel, and your finances are coming back into shape, consider the high end cartridge that interests you...
Record Clamps
like the sota (costly) and michell:(http://www.amusicdirect.com/products/detail.asp?sku=AMICCLAMPB)dont rely on the weight although the sota is heavy, the michell is not. i sense a slight improvement in sound on some TTs, and the intimate contact ...
Best cheap cartridge for college student
the shure or at440ML for about $90, good tracker, bass, mids, top. the grado COULD hum with a dual. aka hifitommy
