Upgrade my CD player or futile effort?
I’m surprised that no one had mentioned the PS Audio cd transport combined with their DAC. I have their Perfect wave SACD transport with their PW dac. Heavenly. It’s not cheap, but…
I have various speakers and audio equipment for sale. They 7-10 years old. Should I list?
The other thing you can do is sell to The Music Room (tmraudio.com) or consign on there. Yes, you won’t make as much money, but much less hassle. They spruce it up for best condition and for pictures, use pro lighting, lost on multiple sites (incl...
Vinyl guy seeking recommendation for a top level cd player
PS audio SACD transport + their Directstream DAC. ‘Nuff said. Check out their website. I have both and they reveal details I’d never heard.
Do I NEVER shut it off…?
I had this exact question regarding my First Watt J2. So I called Nelson Pass. He said what turns his amp on earlier in the day if he knows he’s going to listen to it.     So that’s what I do.    If Nelson says so, I don’t need no freakin science....
Do I NEVER shut it off…?
I had the same question for whether to keep my first watt j2 on all the time or no. i posed the same question to Nelson Pass and he said one should keep it off until an hour or so before listening. Keeping it on all the time can reduce its life he...
Help with turntable setup?
Thanks millercarbon. Well, I set it up. According to Stereophile it’s one of those that doesn’t take much set up. That’s why I got it. I’m happy with the concept MC cartridge that came with  it, but am not sure whether it’s tracking properly, how ...
Bent spade terminal
Ok then!  Thanks very much. It’s clear what to do. One of the few times on a forum. 😉
Who Uses Rear Surround Speakers For Music Playback?
I use the rear speakers and center when I listen to classical multi channel music. Some that are recorded well are fabulous. Some not so much. It depends on whether the recording was actually made that way.
So how can a great system solve less than great recordings
If you’re interested in classical and jazz then you should see the remastered reissues from Pristine Classical. They take albums from the 20s to the 60s and make them absolutely amazing with their XR filtering.  You can’t almost tell the differenc...
Classical Music for Aficionados
Maria João Pires playing the Goldberg Variations. Absolutely sublime. She made the recording Rowan’s the end of her career and you can tell she’s playing how she feels it. She doesn’t have  anything to prove, so none of the showboating you see in ...
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
I had the same experience. Following @millercarbon’s advice a few weeks ago, I got some Townshend podiums under my Tannoy Kensingtons. Wow. The soundstage became very crisp, tight bass and much better clarity of the sound. Really good investment. ...
20 amp cables for PS Audio P20?
Ok thanks. Still not clear about one thing. Of the P20 is a power regenerator why does it even matter what cable I use whether an Audioquest Hurricane or a Radio Shack one?  It’s converting to DC and then generating a totally new sine wave. So no ...
Mega dollar systems. 200k on up. What are their professions?
I don’t judge or begrudge anyone a single bit for a 500k system (or even a 340k turntable) if for every dollar he gives X dollars to a needy person for a leg up. What I have a problem with are people who were fortunate enough to have made it to sp...
REL T5 vs REL T7 subwoofers
I have a related but not quite topical question. Forgive me. I listen to only classical and jazz on my system. No home theater. I have an REL t/7i with my Tannoy Kensington speakers and First Way J2 amp. I hear that two subs are better than one. B...
Lack of Female Representation
I think there’s no such thing. 1/2 of ‘Goners are women, they stay under the radar—they don’t read pointless posts written by men. 😂Unlike others who are mansplaining, I asked my wife. She says it’s not the nature of most women to sit on their but...
