Using XLR to Rca adapter
Never liked adapters. A good adapter cable sounds better, IMO. I recommend this one: http://www.cabledyne.com/rca-xlr-adapter.html. BTW, I now own most of the Cabledyne line so I am biased. No affiliation with them, just a happy user.
Good-Quality USB Cable
The Cabledyne silver USB cable for less than half your budget price. Best of many I tried in the $500 price range. See their reviews. http://www.cabledyne.com/reviews-page-7.html
Running All Your Cables with The same Brand
Mix and match: Cabledyne for speaker cables, Audio Art for interconnects, and Shunyata for power cords. When my mood changes I change it up with other brands of cables on hand like Nordost and Siltech.
Dual Headed USB hookup?
I use the SOTM USB card in my custom Audio only PC. I use a single USB cable with the SOTM Battery Pack. You also need to keep the USB Computer Power connected to the USB (via Molex) to the SOTM card in case the battery fails. In battery operation...
USB cable hype
No Hype, IMO. I have compared $2 Monoprice USB cables to the Wireworld Starlight Platinum and I can easily hear the difference. Much more detail whereas the $2 cable sounds colored and flat. Since the WW is really too expensive, I settled on the C...
Can 12awg speaker wire be mixed with other sizes?
An intelligent question. Cardas cables are a perfect example.
XLR vs RCA
Milpai: 6 dB voltage gain for balanced compared to RCA.
Rhodium vs Gold AC connectors
In my 300B tube based system I prefer the Furutech Gold/copper AC plugs. Rhodium has always sounded a little too hard akin to (gag) nickel. FWIW.
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear
A properly designed cable with unplated pure silver wire is very resolving but not really brighter. I have listened to many silver cables over the years and the sonic result does vary. Typically SPC wire in heavy dielectrics can be rather screechy...
XLR vs RCA
Most gear today comes with XLR jacks and most audiophiles prefer this type of cable. Unless you have older equipment or tube gear, the choice appears to be XLR. IMO, RCA is fine for shorter lengths but for longer runs XLRs are better for CMRR.
Digital Cable Recommendatoins
I have owned the Moray and it was very good. I currently own the Cabledyne Ref. Silver both S/PDIF and AES. These cables are very clean with no digital edge. Price is around $200 depending on length. Good luck with your search. :)
Uneven speaker cable lengths?
Here is how I look it: Cables are reactive components (inductance, capacitance, resistance, plus dielectric and wire variables). This means a 2m and 3m will measure differently and since many folks claim to hear differences in just a few inches of...
cable reviews?
"Unfortunately, the 3 manufacturers you mention have deep pockets in their marketing departments, which leads to many glowing reviews and awards. That's right, the glossy rags are basically pimps for the manufacturers, those that pay the money, ge...
Recommendation for short RCA cables
No plastic cables: Cabledyne.com.
Wall Outlet Oyaide, Furutek, Wattgate, and others
Since AC mains power is noisy, I prefer direct gold/copper outlets and plugs. The brass Hubbells are grainier IMO, similar to Rhodium.
