Sound Advice: 'Cost no object' on audio gear?
@RW- My sentiments, exactly!
Metal-base and non metal-base 5AR4/GZ34?
The ones with the 'B' in the date code(ie: F32/B6H4), are from the Blackburn Plant. Personally; I found the double gettered type to be some of the most reliable and best sounding. A couple examples: (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mullard-Shield-...
Metal-base and non metal-base 5AR4/GZ34?
I suppose you missed the, "METAL BASE, or NOT," in my post. There are lots of bakelite base Mullard/Blackburns out there, for MUCH LESS than $400, any of which will outperform the reissues. Someone else just might happen to read this thread, that ...
What to pair with stacked Large Advents
"Why not. For $300 find me a better sounding set of speakers and I'll buy them!" The Infinity Primus 363 They're easy to find, for around $300.00/pair. More efficient, more accurate, flatter response, cleaner mids, can play louder with much lower ...
Metal-base and non metal-base 5AR4/GZ34?
None of the re-issues will compare with a true Mullard(Blackburn Plant) GZ34, either in sonics or lifespan(metal base, or not).
Capacitor Questions Re-capping Dahlquist DQ-20s
Three capacitors of matched brand, capacitance and voltage would share the same time constant, and should not result in any aberrations. Another subject that might be of interest; observe the outer foil of the caps you use, and orient them as ment...
Capacitor Questions Re-capping Dahlquist DQ-20s
15uF is less than plus 10% of 14.5uF and would sound more coherent than paralleling caps of different values. Jon Dahlquist's claim to fame was always time and phase coherent systems. It would be a shame to compromise that, by mixing the time cons...
Capacitor Questions Re-capping Dahlquist DQ-20s
Look at the list of Solen and AEON caps, on page 6 of the following catalog: (http://www.percyaudio.com/Catalog.pdf) Most capacitors are manufactured to a +/- 10 or 20% tolerance. If you call Michael Percy, he can match caps to within a 2% toleran...
Any CARY CAD 300SEI owners who use Furutech fuses?
Hi RF- Personally, if I were to install a new fuse now; I would try it in both directions, just to see if I could discern a difference. That way; there would be no reason to open up the amp. BTW: Yes, I have all mine oriented with the with the dio...
Midbass differences between Hypex NC400 and UcDs?
YEP! They're out there, and they'll tell you everything you ever wanted to hear.
Hurst motor rumble?
Have you ever lubricated the bearings on your SAMA? If you only hear the rumble, when the belt is on and spinning the platter; it's obviously not being transmitted through the platform. If you can hear the rumble; a subsonic filter is not the answ...
Midbass differences between Hypex NC400 and UcDs?
No one can tell you what any amp will sound like in your room, with your speakers. Too many variables. Every room will have standing waves that create peaks and nulls, that predominately impact the bass to mid-bass frequencies. Every amp will soun...
Any CARY CAD 300SEI owners who use Furutech fuses?
That's how I have my Hi-Fi Tuning Supremes(main & B+) oriented, in my Cary SLM100s. Very pleased with the improvements, in that orientation. I've never tried to hear a difference, having them reversed. They've been treated to a dose of Xtreme ...
