How about a "Remember This?" forum AudioGon?
I second this good idea. It really should stand alone from the Vintage Equipment area.
what amp. to power areial 10-t speakers
I used a Pass X350 for 2 years with my 10Ts. Absolutely beautiful, silky, non-edgy, non-forward highs, mids, voices, strings. Vocals are another strong point. As good as the planars I haver heard, IMHO. Bass was not the last word in detail, but no...
Aragon Palladium vs 8008BB?
I cannot say anything about the Palladium but I did use an 8008 (non-BB version, ST I think, bought new in 1995) for 4 years with Apogee Stages & Aerial 10t's. The 8008 has good, tight bass. It worked well with the Stages, producing liquid mid...
Speaker cable vs. interconnect cable length
Well, the common wisdom is long ICs/short speaker cabling. This is true if you have unlimited money, but long high-end ICs will be prohibitively expensive. My experience is that using a 1-meter pair of very high caliber IC (like Stealth Indras or ...
Sonus Faber Stradivari Homage?
I nominate jeffjarvis's remark above as the Audiogon quote of the year. I'm still smiling over it.
Best Headphone Preamp Cost No Object
I own & I am extremely happy with my latest-version Headroom Max (with HD650s with a Zu Mobius cable); Headroom's new version has a new "reference module" thatis stunning, a significant improvement over the original Max. It is built as solid a...
Jolida JD-100 and Headphones
Don't know about the amp, but I'll add that I had the HD600s & thought they were mediocre but upgraded to the HD650s & feel they are way, way better: larger images, more soothing mids & highs, more natural bass. I use a Headroom Max amp.
Best sacd player
The EMM gear (& I only have the Phillips transport so far) I have no need for SACDs. All I kept saying to myself when I first had the DCC2/Phillips in my system (w/Kharma 3.2FEs) was "IT'S ALIVE!" Some layer of artificiality (is that a word?) ...
Anyone Switch from Electrostatic/Planar to Dynamic
In 1998 I finally gave up on repairing the buzz on one of my Apogee Stages & traded for Aerial 10Ts (later Wilson WP6s, Piega P10s & now Kharma 3.2FEs that I am pretty happy with & will keep for the long haul). I still have a longing f...
Aerial 10T Beware? Another Look & Buyer's Guide
As a former 10t owner, I found it pretty interesting. If this kind of material can't be found here, then where else? Thanks for taking the time & effort for the term paper.
Best way to clean CD's?
I now use & enjoy Walker audio Vivid CD/DVD enhancer. It produces a smoother, more relaxed sound. I bought it from Dedicated Audio.
dcc2 owners: has anyone regretted the purchase?
I formerly used an Accuphase DP75V cdp, which now serves as a transport into my DCC2 (using the preamp output of the DCC2). The DCC2 makes every note sound more relaxing and "true". It is one of those Goldilocks audio products that is just right i...
Is the EMM CDSD transport in very short supply?
Thanks to Tireguy & Jonathan for the hopeful answers. I have never seen a supply-demand imbalance anything like this for any audio product before. Ed Meitner must be proud (as he should be, I guess). I do love my DCC2 (& my wife, too, if s...
Pass vs. Edge
I went from an X350 to an Edge NL-12. The Pass's bass was more oppressive and much less nuanced than the Edge. The Edge's bass has more dexterity and is more natural, deep but not pushy. The Pass is slightly more silky on voices, but barely so, bu...
Best used Red Book Player for Rock-N-Roll
In my experience, CD recordings of rock & other popular music can be harsh and artificially grainy & scraping on systems with components (speakers especially) that have lots of detail in the highs. The speakers have more influence, I belie...
