Room acoustics how ? My image is not centered
couple thoughts. I have a somewhat similar goofy room and found after much experimentation that I was able to "position" my soundstage by having different levels of toe-in. I tried for symmetry but always was skewed. GOt my distances right and pla...
SONY Blu Ray player as CD transport?
sort of depends what DAC your receiver has. another option is to go with a ps3 and run it bit direct to your receiver. some of the pioneers run the wolfson dac and thats pretty good. could always go with a new cheaper dac like a v-dav or dac magic...
Audiophile speakers that rock well
Are you sure that the speakers are failing with rock? I'd suggest getting good speakers that detail well with good recordings and verify they can blast to your satisfaction. If more bass is desired augment with a sub or select another speaker. IMO...
upgrade from Paradigm Studio 20s?
keep the sub and get good bookshelves. all the above are good suggestions. I would add some totems and the smallest PMC (the DB1i I think). heard lots of good things about the proacs and some of the other brands but the best for detail I've heard ...
AudioQuest DBS Field
OK I see what you mean Kijanki. Have to have a think on this one. One reason I'm leary is the EMF vectors completely different and much of the dipole aspect makes less or no sense. to me the inductance is more relevant but..........nice discussion.p
AudioQuest DBS Field
Kijanki I'm making no claims what so ever about Audioquest cables and their relative worth. Merely that the jargon gets good sometimes. I read the monograph you referenced and yes that is a pretty good one on caps not conductors. Go to another out...
AudioQuest DBS Field
"DBS field prevents it by keeping molecules organized all the time. Also, polarization of molecules is probably stronger with higher voltage"aw come on!
SACD - Pioneer Elite any good? Cambridge Audio?
maybe a stupid idea but how about a PS3 and a puny monitor? SACD, DVD audio, cd and internet wireless streaming tossed in for free. have not heard SACD but the bluray performance is really good so the transport does not suck. For $500 you can get ...
Toddler-Friendly Budget Speakers?
Hey insomniac I sent my thoughts on wall mounts and such about when you sent your "no wall mounts" statement. Was not ignoring you! You mentioned bolted stands. One thing you could do would be to follow this idea and include stands with internal c...
2k$ speakers that meet my criteria?
given what I have heard I wonder about maggie 1.7s or maybe the next model up?I'm really happy with my ERA D14's but it depends what those descriptors listed above mean to you. Also given your placement thoughts something with a transmission line ...
Toddler-Friendly Budget Speakers?
why not bookshelves speakers on bookshelves or wall mounts? Need not be much of a downside at all.
B&W 802 and Stillpoints
Ralph it sort of sounds like you are working with hard floors given your description. What about using a thick layer of putty or elastomer. It seems that one method of this is to couple the vibration to an immovable object (like bookshelves on a s...
asynchronous USB dac or jitter reducing device
Straighten me out as needed everyone. My understanding is that jitter reduction methods in DACs and whatnot reduce or eliminate the jitter added in that component. If you get jittered data coming in from outside you cant do anything about it. If t...
B&W 802 and Stillpoints
hate to say it but I've actually tried my speakers on several different bases during a recent redux of my av world and I came to the conclusion that I could mount to a bed of Hostess brand snack cakes with no obvious impact to the music. I think I...
$1700 floorstanders
skip the cables for the time being and blow it all on speakers. you can always get cables later. optical cables are $20 and you can make your own speaker cables. If you get fancy with cables (which someone will likely suggest) you will be looking ...
