Granite Audio 770r tube pre-amp with phono stage
Well - a couple years later, but... I totally agree. I doubt I'll ever change out this preamp. I've had it for over 15 years, never a hiccup. The build quality is exceptional. When I spoke to the owner of Granite Audio (Don - who btw is a very nic...
Dahlquist DQ-20 Fan club Rant
I'm late to the party as usual (don't get onto Audiogon much anymore). According to the Madisound website, the D2008 Code 8512 are still in stock there and they are a direct upgrade/replacement. Here's the page: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore...
Dahlquist DQ-20 Fan club Rant
Hi - In case youi're still checking in here - I'd say the Vandy 3's are closer to the DQ's than the 2's are, but I have always preferred the DQ's better. I find the Vandersteens a bit laid back for my liking. I felt they didn't convey as much exci...
Dahlquist DQ-20 Fan club Rant
To Tommytom - I agree with Mingles - you can do the caps yourself, and save a lot of money AND trouble. re: replacements: I auditioned the Alon V, side by side in my home, and they were marginally "better" in frequency response - which may be a ca...
Dahlquist DQ-20 Fan club Rant
TWEETERS! Hi - It's me again - just thought I'd post this little update since, believe it or not, I still get private emails about Dahlquists from this thread. My 4 year old son recently blew up one of my DQ-20i tweeters and I had to replace them....
Best Outer Sleeves for LPs
I use the BagsUnlimited.com POLYPROPYLENE 12" sleeve with the 1-1/2" RESEAL Flap. Product number SPPLP1234R is 12-3/4 x 12-3/4, which is slightly loose on normal albums and just big enough for heavy gatefold lp's. Very reasonably priced if you buy...
Solo Violin...suggestions.
Geez - after all that, I forgot the Solo suggestions. I would venture that the Bach Sonatas and Partitas closest to being a DSOTM equivalent is Georges Enesco playing. It's not exactly audiophile, but it's very unique in it's emotional content.Cel...
Solo Violin...suggestions.
Be careful. It starts innocently enough with Solo Violin, then a concerto or two - and then Cellos - and then maybe you start thinking what Double Bass would be like. And then you wake up one day on the couch surrounded by Contra Bassoon and Tuba ...
Audioquest vs Hunt EDA Mk6 record brushes
All carbon fiber dry-brushes leave a lot of dust. I like the Hunt, but the most complete removal IMO is to use the Hunt first to "herd" the dust into a neat line, and then use a damp Discwasher brush to remove the line of dust.
A decent set of beginner advice to care of vinyl
In response to Platogirl - If you want speed, and these are not valuable records - Then don't worry about the labels. Just dump 10 records at a time into the soapy water, let 'em soak a couple of minutes (which will really help ease the removal of...
Anyone have an opinion, Jico SAS stylus?
If you can spend a bit more, the Soundsmith retip is an alternative. There is a thread on Audiogon somewhere about this.
A decent set of beginner advice to care of vinyl
The beauty of the Disc Doctor pads - as compared to a machine - is that you can Listen while you Scrub.
Who's your guitar daddy now?

Jennifer Warnes 20th Ann Famous Blue Raincoat RI
Hi - nothing wrong with loving Jenny's voice. I've been a fan since she was a back-up vocalist. It just doesn't justify (to me) FBR's status as an "audiophile" recording necessitating us to buy reissue upon reissue.
Jennifer Warnes 20th Ann Famous Blue Raincoat RI
I have this on original and gold cd's and have had many copies on vinyl - and I don't see what all the hullabaloo is about. It's a better than average recording, but there's still much compression evident. Jenny is a great singer, and I like L.C. ...
