Martin Logan Center Channel-make sense??
No...I doubt it would work. Even if you mix cone speaker brands, it's usually pretty obvious. Heck, even mixing different models within the same brand often causes noticeable mismatches. You should use a center that exactly matches the L/R speakers...
Trelja's new tube amplifiers - Granite 860.1
Nice review. However, I'm wondering if your unconditional endorsement of Granite extends to their cables and claims of using six 9 purity silver. Is that really possible???
McCormack Amps w/upgrades or other SS/Hybrids
I have experience with Steve's Platinum upgrades including his new Carbon/Silver Wiring upgrade. In fact, the DNA 500 is fairly similar to my fully modded DNA .5 monoblocks, although it is in one chassis and the DNA500 does not have the two Plitro...
Damping Vibration - Friend or Foe?
Stehno, here are a couple of non-perfect, but simple analogies to help explain.Take your cushy couch and put it in an automobile that doesn't have any shock absorbers. I bet you feel alot of vibrations no matter how thick the cushion is. Now, take...
Damping Vibration - Friend or Foe?
I'm sure Barry can and will respond for himself, but a few thoughts...First, I didn't read Barry's response to say his products completely protect components from "ALL vibrations".If you read carefully, he said his products ADDRESS more than just ...
The Great Cryo'd Outlet Test
I hate to contribute to these never-ending threads, but...With all due respects to HDM, no matter how many times you repeat it, I think it's obvious that continuing this debate is yielding very little. If you personally hear dramatic changes in an...
Bigger is Better...
I'm far from a videophile, but I'd be wary of HDTV via a cable box. Most of what I've seen is far inferior to satellite, which is understandable considering the differences in how the HD signal gets there. The box used by the cable company in our ...
Top 3 Best Sounding Room In The HE Show 04'
Excluding the big and/or mega-priced stuff, I was particularly impressed with two SS amps - Red Planet Labs and the Linar 5 channel integrated amp.I don't think most people realized how impressive it was to combine a high efficiency speaker like t...
Best of Home Entertainment 2004 NY ?
Maybe it's just my taste, but I just don't get that MBL stuff. Nevertheless, I won't deny that their sound is appealing to many.I also will give them credit for showing up. I can't believe how many WEREN'T there compared to Frisco and NYC 2 years ...
Merlin Room at 2004 HE Show in NY
It was a good room, but it's not surprising because he knows what he is doing. Besides putting together an excellent speaker, he does a few other smart things:1. The speakers are mated with electronics known to have ideal synergy. You'd be surpris...
Stereo system Too Bright
I can almost guarantee it's your CDP. Using a passive preamp (which usually is very transparent) is likely exposing more of the problem with the CDP. Also, since you are getting no gain from the preamp, you may be stressing your amp depending on h...
Review: Shanling SCD-T200 w/ EA Turbomod CD Player
Tobias,Thanks for the kind words. You're right. The main point of my review was to point out how much extra value Steve's mods brought to the Shanling. With just the Underwood mods, I was disappointed. In hindsight, I think one is MUCH better off ...
Can sibilance be eliminated?
Stehno,I think you can remove virtually all sibilance/distortion from digital. If you want to get technical and say absolutely 100% is not possible even with the best parts and designs, I could acknowledge that point. No playback system I've heard...
Sonus Faber Stradivarius
It was a very good review and got his "wholehearted recommendation". He particularly pointed out it's convincing representation of a full orchestra and called it one of the world's great loudspeakers. It also measureed quite well in the limited lab...
Can sibilance be eliminated?
Yes, sibilance can be eliminated.Absolutely NO, it is NOT the price you pay with high detail digital playback. It's the price you pay with poor digital playback. The problem is that most CDPs are still relatively poor performers, even many of the ...
