How do you determine how much to spend on speakers
Yikes....5K in plenty. The speaker-room interface is probably the most critical part of your system. Remember to budget for room treatments as it doesn't matter how much you spend on the rest of your system if the room is bad. The most expensive s...
What wire config for tri-wired speakers?
The designer of the amp should be able to give some indication but there is a lot of uncertainty because you are dealing with multiple variables. As a general rule though excessive capacitance will increase the likelihood of amplifier oscillation ...
What wire config for tri-wired speakers?
If you are going to do multiple runs make sure you go with something relatively low in capacitance. You are going to be effectively tripling the single run capacitance and depending upon your amp it could cause some oscillation problems.
Which cable will reduce harshness of CD player?
I'd agree... don't use a cable to solve this problem. Power filtering would be the first step I'd try.
Anyone made the "Bob Crump" home-made powercord?
I've built the 90 degree Schurter into a few cords. It isn't near as good as the 4300.0603 simply because of the contact area across the IEC blade is much smaller. In addition it is harder to work with. I've only used it with stranded 14 gauge and...
Best Budget power Cords
I think there are a couple of things that need to be said. There really is no such thing as "Best" power cord for $200 or some other such statement. What is true is that all cables are going to be system, taste and context sensitive. Once you get ...
Speaker Cables?
If you want a commercial design. Kimber 4TC is pretty good for the price. If you have the desire to build your own you can save some money using JR's Belden 89259 design.http://www.geocities.com/jonrisch/A thousand bucks is a bunch of music.

Here is the recipe.#1 Belden 19364 #2 Pass & Seymour 5266-X AC Plug#3 Schurter 4300.0603 IEC#4 You need some good solder to attach the IEC. Bob recommends Wonder but you could probably save a few bucks and get by with some Kester 63/37 with th...
Is there a monitor speakers with just one driver?
My favorite full ranger is the Fostex. Either 108Sigma or the 168 Sigma. They make sweet music but like most full rangers suffer on the bottom. Good thing is they are cheap (compared to some of the Lowthers) and there are plenty of good designs av...
Anyone tried Voodoo or TG Audio PCs?
I sell the DIY version of Bob's cords. We call them the Asylum Cords since that is where Bob released his design for us cable tweakers to play with. I build/sell them to raise money for our adoption fund.http://www.geocities.com/kevperro2000/They ...
Power Cord Challenge
I had a broken-in one around here for awhile but I shipped it. I'll put another one on my amp and let it run. I have a MOBIE for the interconnects but the power cables are useless to break-in before shipping. All that agitation during shipping doe...
Power Cord Challenge
Dekay: I'm willing to supply you with one of our cords for the test. Let me know and I'll put one in the mail as I would like to see how it stacks up against all these "big dogs".www.diycable.com
Power Cord Challenge
Great idea... this topic is never ending on this forum. :) I like the fact that there is money riding on it. I'd love to send a cable for the test. I will say this...9/10 is a pretty tough goal. My audio memory is like 3 seconds at best so I would...
Speaker Cable Terminations
Let's see:Solder vs Crimped: Crimped is supposed to better. You have to have a good crimper and the right connectors for crimping. Solderd works well (I have done a/b testing with the result that I can not tell the difference) if you use proper te...
Power Cords for Cary805c amps
Oh come on guys... why did I get a -2, -2 for that comment. Did I sound like I was selling something? I was just trying to give the poster good advice based on my experience. It is a lot more than anyone else is giving.
