Repair Magnepan MG IIa vs new 1.7 or 0.7, etc
bdp24, they look like great speakers and potentially a good value but also appear to require high powered amplifier to handle the 83dB rating. A 75wpc minimum requirement by the manufacturer is even higher than why Magnepan states in their literat...
MMGs
Thank you. I'll find out tomorrow. Hoping they didn't "overheat"....

Thanks Schubert. The reason I asked was my brother in law has borrowed my MMGs and drove them with his Accurus integrated - I thinks 100wpc, and called me to say the amp was got very very hot to touch before he stopped it. This got me worried if h...

Schuert, can you be more specific in what you mean they "blew" 4 ohm rated amps? Also, did the MMGs get damaged in the process as well or not. Thanks.
Repair Magnepan MG IIa vs new 1.7 or 0.7, etc
If it were me, I'd either repair them myself or get a pair of used 1.7s. Good to know the repair kit is that reasonably priced.

I posted an honest question a while back asking who would buy a Boulder 3060 amp hoping to learn more about the type of speakers that demand such an amp and the discussions went the same way as this thread. Lessons learned.
Speaker wire/cables opinion
I don’t think the choice of speaker cables will and should make a night or day difference unless you’re running very long runs, like 100 feet+. I also believe the difference in cables, speaker or interconnects, is very system dependent. The only t...
After nearly 20 years, I left Magnepan and went ProAc
I've found there's something special about MTM design speakers that sets them apart from other designs. When implemented well, they can sound eerily natural and real. No doubt Proac has nailed that.

JC1 for $6K a pair? Used may be. Last I checked they were more like $9K/pair. Still a good value but for that price you compete against a lightly used Pass XA.
Changed the power cord to SignalCable Magic Power cord on my CroMag II
I know this is a bit old subject but I'm not quite understanding OP's remarks about the affects of power cord. If a component  sounds very neutral by design out of the box, then any aftermarket "upgrade" or tweak with any noticeable impact, will b...
What to upgrade next?
I find OP's question very difficult to answer. Different tweaks tend to result in improvements in different areas in sound quality. Some add a little more bass - my experience with good power cords, or give wider detail- my experience with cartrid...

Most make fun of these seemingly ludicrous prices but the irony of it all is generally the more expensive the XXX - fill in the blanks, the longer is the waiting line, unless you're willing to pay for the markup. See how long will you need to wait...
Class D Audio amp noisy when bridged to mono
Out of curiosity, what does "switching noise" sound like? Its one of the more popular criticisms of the class D amps in general and I've never heard anyone try to describe it in subjective terms.
Is remastered mainly just less jitter?
It looks like the older the recording the higher the dynamic range. Just scrolling through the chart, regardless of the artist, the lossless CDs from late 80's and 90's all have consistently higher DR. This is completely the opposite of the common...
Music Streamer Quality
If you're looking for a DAC with multiple RCA coax inputs, the options collapse into only a handful, at least based on my search, within a reasonable price range. I don't care much for the optical input. I had a limited budget so I went with a Cam...
